I just bought a 14' Raveau (wood) with a 1962 short shaft 50 HP Mercury. It should be medium performance.

I was thinking of buying it without the motor and then maybe putting a short shaft motor and jackplate on it. But I think a jackplate would look wrong, and I don't care how fast it is. Since the old Mercury looks right on the boat, I bought the entire rig, and I am hoping the old motor will work acceptably.

David most on the site wouldn’t know about Raveau boats.

What would have been the 1960 equivalent of a T boat in Canada? In the US it would have been boats like the Raveau. Raveau stopped building boats in the early 1960s when fiberglass took over, but then re-started wood boats in the mid 1990's. Mine is the last one they made. It is a 2017.

Originally I was thinking of buying it without power as I was and am skeptical about a 60+ year old outboard. But given Raveau's long association with Mercury I have concluded the boat needs a Merc. And since the original owner has a deep love (and big collection) of old Mercs, I will try to honor him and make my old Merc work.
