These are my rides the 13 checkmate and the 17 panther are mine and my dads and the 15 foot checky is my cousins. The 15 and 17 both have the original gel coat, and the 13 and 17 have undergone restorations. The 13 has a 75 hp mariner with a bobs nose cone and manual jackplate, swinging a 26-28 pitch propellers. The 15 has a 115 hp yamaha, with the same upgrades and he swings a 24 chopper. Now the 17 has a 225hp johnson venom and turns a 28 chopper, this is a really sketchy because of the single ride guide steering doing over 70 mph lol.

very nice, i saw that one for sale alittle while ago, how much work is there to do? they are very cool boats, been running mine for a few years and absolutely love it, we had to redo the whole boat besides doing the core when it was restored, but it was very worth it in the end. Currently there are 4 13 foot checkmates owned around my cottage on lake simcoe, and we all love the hull.

Hey Patrick, thanks for the reference to the website, its very cool to find a website where its all about performance boats. You have quite the ride there yourself. I cant wait to try out the dual ride guide in the panther and hopefully be able to run it wide open this time hahaha

nice boats, I had a 17' panther with a 89 225 looper a few years ago,Mark, (V8 charged) has it now, great ride, 6" jackplete and get it up around 2"under the pad , meke sure you have a water pressure guage, but that height should be ok. I had solid mounts and tight dual cable steering, worked well, great boats, nice Checkmate too!

Thanks, how fast were you able to get it going with the jack plate? Considering that the motor is only all the way up on the transom, the lower unit is considerably high, much higher then i expected, right now we cant even run it at full throttle yet because of the single ride guide, but we can get it up to about 5200 rpm with what seems like a 1/4 throttle left and it flies.

Mine is in rough shape... found that the core is fairly rotten.. what kinds of speeds are you seeing with the 75??

never ran a gps in the boat, im hoping my cousin will have his this weekend and run all three boats with it but ive run with a jetski beside me doing around 62 mph with the 26 pitch laser at 5300-5400 rpm. What are you thinking about putting on yours once its complete? I wouldnt recommend this engine if your looking for sheer top speed, only because the engine is alot heavier then what a comparable yamaha or omc would be, especially with the jackplate, i take it you saw how low it sits in the back end? lol

with the centreline of the propshaft 1 3/4" to 2" under the pad, and a 26" raker prop at 6200 to 6300 rpm, it ran 80mph, you need to get the propshaft up to that height, and at least solid mounts on the two easy to change bottom locations, or the handling will be sh*t. I ran a foot throttle too I glassed a 3/4" plywood pad in under the dash with 4 T nuts on the bottom on the right side so I could use my right foot. your motor should turn the chopper low 6's, try a raker prop, I think you will like it. Pm Mark, (V8charged) on here , he has a 28 raker he would let you try. Dont even bother trying anything until you get a jackplate on and the propshaft up, what lower unit do you have on your 225? if you have 4 holes per side, you can block off the top hole with epoxy or silicone without losing any water pressure and allow it to run a little higher if you dont have a nosecone on it. you do not need one to run 80 btw.
