brand new deep cycle battery,, way too big for this motor to begin with, ,, ran great first few times out this year, now every time i go to the ramp i need a boost ,, then its fine all day has tons of amps,,can start and stop all day fishing no issues :?

What could be draining my battery when it sits for a week ?,, i dont have any electronics :lol: im going to go unhook it now and charge it ,,i hope it starts tomorrow :| :roll:

I am guessing you don't hear a tiny buzzing noise that might be your bilge pump on constantly?

I always thought that deep-cycle batteries were to run accessories, trolling motors and lights, etc. ... They will crank a motor, but it's not their designed use, perhaps prolonged use as a starting battery has killed a cell and shortened it's life. If it runs all day and holds a charge then I'd say your charging system is working properly. Can you throw a known good battery in it while it sits for a few days to rule out a bad battery?

yes i will have to try swaping it out,,, but its behind my oil rez so i have to take a bunch of stuff out to get at it,, oh well... i thought deep cycle was for prolonged storage, for boats, rvs, etc..and desined to run low and be recharged frequently vs a regular car battery that is constantly being charged every day all winter and stay fully charged..... either way i used it 3 times before it started giving me trouble and it was new this spring.. so if it is bad, i hope i can find the receipt..

If you have one, I would say your rectifier.
Had it happen to a 25 and 80 Merc.
It's broken so it is grounding out to your motor and draining the battery.

If you take the positive connection off the battery while it's being stored and it doesn't happen again. You've got a short "somewhere"

I would try that to see what's going on. replacing the battery without knowing what the problem is, could result in exactly the same thing happening again. Also - wasted money on a new - not required battery.

Usually if it's the rectifier it won't recharge the battery but if you get a BIG spark when you attach your (engine) battery cables then it's motor/harness/gauge related. Like Tom said leave the battery cable off until you figure it out. IF the battery still goes dead than it's the battery....or take the battery out and have it load tested.

ill take it out load test it ,, and put a new battery in...... i have 4 new batteries from this spring.. my parents cottage is on a private no outboard lake,, so they use a trolling motor,, mine is the same so i can label it and swap it with one of them..no harm no foul no money waisted,.,i wonder if mt custom wireing job (trim switch) is shorting out in my control box :oops:
