Post subject:  Charger DL 18 floor and knees replacement.

I'm replacing the floor. Stomped a big hole under where the bench seat would go yesterday. Shitty but I've already got the wood and glass. I'm doing the knees and battery boxes too. Should be fun.
Now of course this happens after I get the engine hung on the transom. It is necessary to remove the engine before replacing the knees or can I lift/brace/support the engine while still on the boat.
I got 5/8" Douglas Fir for the floor and 3/4" fir for the knees. Looks like it was 3/4" at one time but is now swollen and split.
So, advise?
The floor is out right to the front of the boat under the bow. Looking to get it done quickly. I'm working as we type.
Thanks in advance.

My thoughts are that if you are having to go to this trouble you should look at replacing the transom as well. This makes taking the motor off a mute point which I think you should take off if you are pulling apart the structural integrity of the boat. Also how is the core? With the floor up you may find it is wet and in need of replacement.

I would suggest you check condition of all components.
Take samples of the transom and core.
If they are good, get back at it.
If not, get back at it faster!!! ;)
Usually, if one section is rotten, the rest are not too far behind.
It would suck to have to remove a fresh floor and knees to do a transom and/or core.
