Thanks Tom, I remembered you had 52 cubic inch 60 Mercury. I have a 15 inch mid and gear case for a 59 cubic inch. Too bad this one is a 52. For 400 bucks I would have a project. |

If the gear case on this one can be saved might be good for something 1.62 gears on mine, mind you it's a 15" as well |

One could likely sell the power trim, control box and lower unit off this one for a few hundred dollars. Could possibly break even. People have mentioned that re-building a 59 cu. Mercury can have major problems and many re-builds require purchasing a new block. Something to do with oversize piston and the sleeves. I would prefer to find a running motor and reduce the risk. One of the southern 3 cylinder drag boys says the 59 cubic inch Mercury with a few tricks are great drag motors. |

A lot of work, little return. Use mine cause it's dead stock, reliable and unmolested. |

I know most of the tiller drag 59 Mercury racers run the 40 hp model and that block is not ported the same as the 60 hp. Others claim they can get 100 hp out of the 60 hp block. That 2 piece block with no removable head seems like a real disadvantage. Maybe?? they can turn that into an advantage if?? they can install 90 hp sleeves in the 59 block. These southern boys are very smart. |

A 90 Hp Tiller would be a real handful to hold onto, my 60 wears my arm out even with a steering damper. Interesting thought though. Glad you brought it up, think I'll install a bungee/pulley system this year to tame the torque steer. |
