My first post and I’m inexperienced at repairs so be gentle.

Here’s the story: drive shaft broke just above the pinion. Removed lower unit and pulled bearing carrier, water pump and drive shaft. I’m trying to get the rest of the drive shaft out, the broken piece that the pinion is still attached to, but I can’t remove the prop shaft without removing the shift shaft.

So my question is does the shift shaft bushing have reverse threads or does it thread on and off like most normal screw type things? I’m asking because I read somewhere that this part threads reverse and I don’t want to waste time turning this thing the wrong way.

1978 merc V-200 (200 hp)

Thanks in advance

Unscrew the shift shaft as you would unscrew any bolt.
