While the 25 is the best motor merkery ever made...its got nothing on the 3cyl yamaha...except it's slightly easier to carry back to the shop...

And it's way easier to cut the head on the yamaha..

Then needed three because two left them with one and paddles after a breakdown. Agreed they left you with an option to cut the head and make it the motor it should have been from the start... a 50 .

Here is an update on testing 12 and 14 foot aluminum fishing boats with a 30 hp Yamaha. First off they are very fast , over 40 mph with a 14 pitch stock aluminum prop. Second they are wild. Very difficult to run with any side wind. The heavier ones run straighter. The 12 foot Yukon model ran the best. There is a big difference in the new 12 foot models compared to the older boats. The new 12 footers are much wider deeper and heavier. There are not any used ones for sale. We were lucky to have an owner let us run his. Racing with 2 light people in the boat would be best just like the Aussi racers do. The passenger would move to the bow on the corners.
I think a tiller Critchfield would make a better raceboat.

I may have found a fellow in Ontario that can build us a custom aluminum race boat.

I am thinking of a 13 foot, 200 lb, semi V with a 19 inch transom. Similar to the Aussie 30 hp on the videos.

Hi Don. That is a very cool sport, I have seen the small racers with the steering but had no idea about the tiller steering racers. I could build a prototype that would certainly be similar.
