I have been thinking about having a Beginners only, entry level, very low cost, form of racing to get new people racing. Here is my latest idea.
For some reason there has been a very large number of the small Jet Star type 12 foot 2 seater boats for sale. Some have been free and most are low cost. There are lots out there. All of them need work. There are also a lot of 2 cylinder 40 hp motors short shafts out there for under $500,00.
My idea is to have 5 or 6 identical boats. The only difference is colour of the boat. Same boat, same motor, same prop.
These boats would have sponsors and the sponsors name is on each boat.
New people pay extra to race these boats. Part of the fee goes back to the sponsor to pay for the boat.
The class would race Sunday morning before the normal races.
The boats are on display Saturday so people can sign up.

We have something like this in APBA SLT. We have 2 spare sets of kevlar available for any new race team to use for thier first season. They are also used if someone wants to be a co-pilot, they can sign-up for the $50 weekend APBA membership and ride with us.

i remember as a kid in Dunnville there was a bunch of grew cubs with 25hp. The local councelors raced them one day..i am sure that helped draw a crowd and new people, i remember thinking they were so cool and my parents should buy me one! lol

I don't know anything about the Toth Boats.
Here is an example

They were even smaller, but safer?? and they ran very well with 2 people onboard. If this is true then we could have an instructor go with the rookie as part of the initial training. Two boats would fit on one trailer.

Anyone know about this hull?

This thread will show you how popular and how many different models there are out there for these small boats.

I haven't been to Lakefield for a while, but Toth was still there and making these boats 2 years ago.

Tom Toth built tunnel hulls. They were fast. I did not know they built mini boats. I had a boat like above. It was a Spierscraft Sportsman.
