I helped Rob Scythes separate the deck and hull on 15 foot Viper yesterday. We had the boat beside my Oasis T750 boat. I wanted to compare the two size wise because I am concerned my 250 lb 4 stroke will be too heavy on the my Critchfield. That motor is the same weight as an old inline six Mercury. This is the first time I have seen a Viper up close. It is much bigger than I thought, very well designed and constructed. The owner is going to run a 4V OMC on it. It took a lot of time and patience to split the boat. If the owner is on this site, I can tell you we got it split perfect without any damage to the deck or hull. Now I know why so many like this model and why the Viper can handle a V6 and run 100 mph. The hull looks even nicer without the deck. I would love to see one with a lower deck design. This boat is blue and silver and from NY state. Wish I got the red one that was for sale last year.

Don the merc is only 20lbs heavier than the Yamaha 70 and lighter than the 90....so I don't think it's too heavy for the boat. Didn't someone have an sst90 mounted on one? I can't see running a bigger heavier boat being a better option for that motor.

I think the SST90 was on the Baker that HeviKevi has now at some point.

Mike and Jordan have both had 90 powered voodoos. They all work and float fine.

90hp voodoos are awesome.... I drove mikey's and it was beautiful.

It was on the Gordon's rapid craft that Kevin purchased. Gordon's use to hang weights off the nose ring to keep the stern from going too low when the boat was at the dock. The boat ran nose high would be difficult to
set for a race turn. I have run a mod 90 hp Short Shaft on a VooDoo. It handled the weight. For starters I will mount it on Jim 911 boat.

I'm pretty sure he had a few inches of setback on it and the weights on the nose ring were to help it from sinking if it sat because it leaks between the deck and the bottom. I noticed quite a bit of water even came in with my stinger on it when it was tied to the dock.

My 13 checkmate has a 288 lbs mariner 3 cylinder on it, no issues with it. Id say you'd be fine to run that 4 stroke.

If the Critchfield doesn't work out a 13 MX Checkmate would be excellent. I ran one of those with an 80 hp Mercury and the balance was perfect. I even know a fellow with comp light weight 13 MX and he may loan it to me to try. Good suggestion!
