Question came up last nite. I run a 15 ft Boston Whaler Super Sport 1986 model with a 90 Yamaha. Has anyone had a 13 foot Whaler or Scout with 60 hp power? I have seen many with 40 and 50 hp but nothing larger. VP 75 is a class running in the US. They run in the 50 mph range. We got the same results here running a production checkmate. I don't think a Whaler type 13 footer with the same power would run 50 mph. There are lots of these hulls around and it would be fun to see how they run on the oval. Anyone had any experience with these?

Our buddys 13' whaler with an at the time 2003ish johnson 40hp twin did 42mph with the stock prop. I know they made the same 2 cylinder in a 60hp aswell so i think you could get it goin pretty fast. This thing was a riot, pretty stable at speed to

I did a search and found some posts where people ran 60 and 70 hp motors on 13 ft whalers.
Mixed comments! Some said the boat was crazy while others said they ran perfect. The ones that liked the combination said the boat ran low 50's. Engine weight is the issue. You cannot use a newer Mercury or a 4 stroke. 49 stinger worked well. As did the 49 Mercury. Now this has got my interest. People love to see boats race that they can relate to and seeing a classic race would be of interest. To rig one for racing is not costly or would not take a lot of time. I bet we could use them as turn and or tow boats as well. I think I will rig one and try it out. My neighbour has the perfect boat to test. It is a 13 whaler with a 2 cylinder Mercury and cable steering. I have a 49 Mercury short shaft, so it is a plug and play. If I can get it to run over 50 mph you will see it at Gravenhurst in T750!

You gonna run it with a cut down Bimini top as well?
Be funny as hell to see it run mid pack or better!
Wouldn't it get kinda squirley in the corners with the whalers bottom configuration?

Here is an example of a 15 footer with a 90 on it. My boat runs the same way. Very stable and I think they would run fine in the corners. Killer in the rough water.
