Hi Guys,
I picked up a project hull that absolutely requires a short shaft motor. 16" transom, 450lb hull.
Given that its an older hull my first thoughts were to go with an inline 6 mercury but short shaft availability in Canada is nil. I could get by with a mid and steering link as other brackets are possible.
Anyone know where I can locate these unicorns?

Alternatively, I'd appreciate suggestions for a middle weight shorty in the 100-150 range. A Merc V6 while possible to build would be too heavy for this application.

Thanks for your thoughts.
Tom

Take whatever power you’re thinking of and get the mid shortened.

65 Carlson Contender... Cool not fast.
Ignore the crap paint, it's a total strip and refurb.
Had one of these 30 years ago that I had to let go cause I need the shop space.

Thanks Guys,
Had hoped to do something with stock parts but you're right, cutting down the mid of choice will likely be in the future.
I see Calhoun Marine has done Yamaha 90's Merc 90's but no OMC info. A V4 would be nice on this hull, fairly light and torquey. Guess I'll follow up with them.

Calhoun, Chaz or Ronnie all do excellent work.
There’s a couple others that are highly regarded but their names escape me.
If you want this project in the water for next spring I’d suggest you figure out what you want to do and get the mid off to whomever is going to do the work ASAP.
Turnaround time on something like this isn’t quick.

Thanks Greg,
Good advice. I'm not pressuring myself with specific completion dates but I'd rather get motor choice sorted earlier than later. If you have other contacts I'd appreciate them. PM or text.

also Jerry Sellner has the biggest race hoard I have ever seen. He has multiple railroad car trailers full of race outboards. We picked up the VKing from him.... great guy. He will have something for sure. Can ship to Port Huron for pick up.
