Covid has really shut down boat racing the last two years , let’s hope we are back to normal next spring! The COVID BUYERS have caused major increases in the prices of marine equipment. Who ever thought you would see 3 cylinder 2 stroke, 25 year old non rebuilt Yamaha motors selling for $4000.00 to $5500.00! My neighbour sold his junk J Craft outfit that he couldn’t sell for $3000.00 four years ago......sold for $8500.00.....!! Part of the reason is the cost of new boats and motors. A NEW 23 foot ski boat is over $200,000.00 on Kijji this week. Our cottage is on Lake Muskoka lots of money up there.....our American cottage owners were only recently able to cross the border, so they haven’t been able to use their cottages. That has reduced the number of boats on the lake and hurt the local businesses. The biggest change on our lake is the boat size.......no more 18 to 20 foot ski boats......they’re now 22 feet plus and they’re Wake boats! Can’t run a small under 15 foot boat on the lake any more....waves are too big.....even sitting on your dock is a challenge....the waves come through and over the dock....and many times don’t know where they originated from. On the racing seen TORC is having a swap meet....check their Facebook. Several T boats and motors have changed hands Lots of restorations going on. GO BLUE JAYS GO!
