We were in Maryland last year visiting my brother-in with his sailboat, that's right, I said sail boat. Anyway, beside the marina was some old boat junk, naturally I had to explore it. Back behind all this, in the woods was this...ImageImage

It is a complete hydroplane race boat. Still on the trailer, complete with gas cans on the trailer.

Everything including the prop is still there. The boat, although not intact is all there, just lower to the ground.

As much as you would want to do something with it, it can not be touched. It would disintegrate immediately, all you can do is take pictures.

See the water cooling tube there...

verl cool, stumbling on a piece of boat racing history. I wonder if some where someone has scale drawings for some of these forgotten heros.

How cool is that motor...it looks like a mechanical fuel injection system on there...and of course the short headers pointed at the driver's face lol

I would give my left testi for those cowlings/hardware for the garage wall!!! That stuff is (to quote Gig) SICK!

Now this is pretty cool. Too bad there isn't more to know about the story on this ship or the driver. Great find! Makes you want to go sifting through car and boat bone yards.

Any idea on how old it might be?
