For a while now, I've been wanting to build something a little different. Something that I haven't seen tried before. I love 3 cylinders for some reason. V6's are just too big and expensive to play with. When Rick informed me Top Gun had a blown 75 E-tec there and Top Gun informed me he not only had that but another blown 75/90hp longblock as well, I paid him a visit and it followed me home. After spending a couple days planning it out, I've figured out my project. The plan is a 12" mid cut from an old 20" I have laying around. I'll see if I can fit a set of clamps to it. If not, I'll machine some up. The flywheel off a 70hp OMC fits right on but space from the top of the crank to the block is different. I plan to adapt an old school 70hp OMC ignition to it. This will require machining to both the crank trigger base and the top of the block as well as an adapter plate to make the trigger and the stator fit. I picked up some 2 barrel carbs off Top Gun I'm planning to use as well. The intake is huge on this thing with 12 pedal reeds. Looks like you can put a lot of air through there and it has finger ports. The ports look rather small in the cylinder both intake and exhaust and I think restrictive cast-in exhaust may be a bit of a limiter on horsepower. I'll be making an adapter plate and tuner for it rather than cutting and welding the mids as they are pretty different and if the whole project doesn't work out, at least I'll have a cool 12" mid I can bolt a 56 on. Hopefully if it works, it won't tear up the nitro gear case right away. I'll have to machine up a cylinder head as well or modify the current one and make domes for it. Not sure what I'm going to do about pistons yet. I wonder if I preheat them first and weld up the pocket in the center if they will hold their shape dimensionally? I'll try an old piston and see I guess. Here's a picture of the basic parts I'll be starting with. I'll keep posting updates as I go. Oh ya, I should also add that these are 1295cc...

Not sure what the carbs are from. They might be Mod 50 carbs. They were on a home made mod 50 that Paul had. I asked Fast Fred on BRF what the difference was between the V-4, V-6 carbs to the mod 50 and these look like the mod 50 ones. I guess the plates and nozzles are different between them.

I really like it! Bet you could match it up with a GiG drag set back unit.
