I just think this is too good of an idea to give up on, so I am still working on it. There is a fellow very interested in building the custom boat. I think the cost will be very good and result in a great boat. As a fresher here is a similar boat...this boat is 10 feet...ours will to 12 feet...this boat has no floor...ours will have an aluminum floor. Both boats will be similar: - 20 inch transom - bench seat at the stern https://usatsneakhype.files.wordpress.c ... racing.png http://i.ytimg.com/vi/6z4PXM5RKDA/maxresdefault.jpg I will keep you up-dated. |

subscribed. Don that has to be the strongest aluminum boat I have ever seen. That boat could run thru anything and survive - can't say the same for the spine of the driver All those stiffener ribs (strakes) are adding tremendous rigidity to the boat. I would assume they also help the boat carve thru the turns. The added handrail around the top also adds tremendous rigidity to the hull. Good luck with your project. Imo those strakes will be your biggest challenge to form into the aluminum sheet. Welding the strakes on causes alot of distortion trying to keep the bottom flat and straight. |

What power will you be running. I have been thinking about building a similar boat either of plywood or if I had the money, carbon/nomex honeycomb panels. Would probably weigh 55 or 60lbs but would not be as malleable as aluminum. |

I have had a few threads on this site about this type of boat. I thought it would be a fun class to get young people into boat racing. The motor would have been 30 hp. I was hoping to get racers running the modern E-TEC and 4 strokes in the class. I only got a few interested. This thread is not about racing, I hope the builder agrees to build a boat for me and people like it. If he sells a few, it is good for him. MAYBE?? some end up racing. I should know next week if the build is on. He thinks it will take 3 to 4 months to build one. So it is a large commitment on his part. Here is what is special about this boat compared to other small aluminum boats: - as Doug noticed..it is stronger built compared any other 12 footer!! - the open style with a aluminum floor allows you to dress it up different to suit your need at the time. - it can carry cargo - it can be a tiller boat - you could add side or centre consol - you could have a jockey seat - you could add a front pedestal seat AND you can bolt all of the above to the aluminum floor and remove it. Welded construction.....it will last for years!!! It should weigh between 170 to 200 lbs. A TORC hydro racer could put all their gear and tent in the boat. Mount the hydro on top of the boat and pull it with their Honda civic. |

UP-DATE as of to-day. I had a meeting with the fellow about building the boat. Ends up he has just started in the aluminum boat business. He is not building the boats here. They are being built in China. At first I was disappointed, but later it did not seem like a bad idea. For one many of the Aussie boats come from China in the first place. His price for the welded 12 footer with the floor is in the $2500.00 range. He has not asked for a deposit and is currently confirming they can make some special mods to the boat. The good news is we could get more than one boat at a time IF people want them. AND they appear to be open to making the custom models. He already has orders for some of the other sizes and cleared the way to get Canadian Tags for the boats. The larger the China shipment, the less cost for shipping per boat. I am being cautiously optimistic at this point. |

hi mate , we call them boats over here barra punts , there been round for years . there all built here in aus as far as i know. they come in a various range of sizes and lengths , search quintrex stessel brooker stacer . the shorter ones run well , but the longer they get they build a rocker in the hull and they just bounce around all over place tlat out.. i've had many a tiny over the years and my slt boat beats them all hands down. but no way would you run a slt up one of them up the creeks. it's funny , i'd love to get my hands on a havoc edge or allweld duck boat you guy's make over there |

The fellow has changed his ad to included a 12 foot model. https://www.kijiji.ca/v-powerboat-motor ... nFlag=true So far he has had only minor quality issues with the boats he has received from China. The 14's came in a little heavier than expected. To me that is a good thing. I hope he posts a picture of the 12 footer. There were no issues with the hulls not being straight. Customers are interested because of the welded construction, the aluminum floor and the low price. |

Don, are you looking at building these boats here in Canada or importing from China? |
