Bridgeport sleeves
Don’t be surprised of the difference in the porting sleeve to sleeve. Most of the porting is irregular due to production standards. You will notice that the port width measurement on the production sleeve can be slightly larger than the SST 60 spec.
The production or sand cast blocks are 1986-7 model motors. Many times those motors have damaged rebuilt oversized bores and the sleeves need to be replaced. New sleeves are available but costly. The Bridgeport sleeves from the lost foam cast blocks fit the production block so you can use those sleeves. Having a selection of sleeves is an advantage. You may be able to get 3 standard bore sleeves. You could find 3 good standard bore pistons . It takes more time to locate parts but you will save money on parts and machine shop work, plus you end up with a standard bore powerhead.

Now you maybe a person that is not a DIY type. You can use an SST 60 powerhead. Racers did a “raceprep” on those lost foam cast blocks to remove the glue lines in the casting to improve the air flow. That alteration is shown on the SST 60 spec sheet pdf in the post above.

It is interesting that Mike W would advise in 2017 to run your SST 60 at 7600-7700 rpm maximum. When his motors were running over 8000 in the previous years. His statement about the high rpm motors failing is 100% true. Most didn’t last 10 hours and they cost $5000. US. Being competitive in SST 60 was expensive!

Here is an excellent example of two Mike W top SST 60 powerheads. The video is from Sam M boat. Number 44 is Sam L. Mike Hooper is also in the race. The video is just over 13 minutes. It’s the complete race from start to finish. Both these boats run close to 80 mph on these short straightaways and it’s a driving error by Sam L that costs him the win.

LISTEN to the sound of the motor. It’s quiet for an SST 60 and very smooth. Not the usual bark
you hear from an SST 60

The two Sam boats sure look to have an advantage over the rest of the field! Not many boats on the lead lap either. Very expensive to compete in that series and win!
