A lot of history and future stars in that video. Steve it must have been 1987 when the VooDoo and Danny Critchfield boats first appeared in FE. Todd Clarke is on the video, but did he race in 1986?
The 650XS Mercury appeared in 1976, so it was 10 years old then. OMC was still selling the 49. Had they gone to Second Effort in 86 and was the Formula E sold in 86? I know the last Formula E was sold in 1989 and I believe Brian Rodway got it.
If my memory is correct there were no minimum weighs in 1986, so the Canadian boats were Ultra lights compared to the APBA boats which had a weight minimum. It must have been a disadvantage for the American boats when they raced against the CBF boats..

I think Todd was crew for Paul that year. We had the first Voodoos with the Formula E(see pic) in 87, thanks to Jim Tucker (Canadian Edition). There was no min weight in Canada. The three voodoos we had were 150, 165 and 165 lbs. It took three years to catch Jim Starkey from the US.

Im running the 87-88 videos now.I ran an original 72 Delta built by Bob sanders then I bought the Critchfield in 86 and brought it to Dunnville in 87 after the rule change, still running the thrust block in 87-88.I remember pulling in the pits Friday nite and having everyone check it out. When I bought it, it weighed about 245 but then we had to weigh 840 anyway...not the fastest but really turned good and could get over about anything and very consistent...Jim

Talking about your vixen...my buddy Craig Burket had Howard Pipkorns old vixen with the nose extention on it to meet the JP rules.Craig ran GP with an 850xs but once in a while he ran a 150xs on it in JP....he was a wild man..Jim
