Once we got good entry numbers in the T850 class we wanted to start a T750 class. T850 was similar to the Canadian FV class that had run in the region until 2002. There had never been a T750 class in Canada and we were starting with the UIM rulebook for T750.
The T750 boats running in European were not available in Canada, but our T850 boats looked like they could also be Very good T750 boats. The difference was weight...the minimum weight in T850 boat, motor and driver for T850 is 725 Lbs....the minimum weight for T750 is 594 lbs. Most T850 boats weight between 750 and 800 lbs. With the only difference between the two being the weight of the motor we knew it would be unlikely that any of our T750 boats could get down to the 594 weight. But that shouldn’t be an issue because every boat would be overweight and similar in weight . Only advantage would be the weight of the driver. Lighter drivers would have an advantage over the heavier ones.
T750 is basically a two cylinder class and there are many outboard models that fit.
Outboard Performance Craft division had the best option ...the OMC 60 hp twin.
Fortunately there was good information on the web of this motor running on hulls similar to our T750 hulls.
This is one example:
http://www.mccauleyandson.com/html/1983Johnson60.htmlFrom this example we learned that the our T750 boats should run approximately 55 mph. That was good news because that’s exactly the same speed as the UIM T750 boats were running in Europe.
Initially we were running mostly Delta hulls and a VooDoo. The class grew and we saw critchfields, Allison and Oasis hulls. Every boat ran between 53 and 59 mph. We had OMC, Mercury, Yamaha and Tohatsu outboards in the class including a 4 stroke.
The pandemic killed the class in 2020 and we want to get it back!
What got the interest in the first place was fans watching the races. It’s a good race to watch and fans can relate to both the motors and the boats.
It only takes 3 boats to enter and we have a race.
