Mercury-Canada makes history with Canadian powerboat champion Tammy Wolf

Wednesday, 07 November 2012

We are please to announce Mercury-Canada is once again creating history by sponsoring Canadian powerboat champion, Tammy Wolf. Tammy will be the first Canadian women to compete in the SST 200 class in North America.

Powerboat racing is the most exhilarating sport in the world. Drivers, teams, and equipment are constantly tested. Each lap is different, drivers not only compete against each other but also against the ever changing water and wind conditions. Boats reach the turn buoy at speeds up to 110 mph and in a split second; they accelerate out to the next turn while riding on a cushion of air.

Mercury-Canada and Tammy Wolf Racing have developed an aggressive Formula 2 program for 2013. The team believes in being environmentally responsible and with Mercury’s guidance they chose to compete with a low-emission, high-performance,2.5 Liter, Mercury OptiMax 200XS SST (Super Sport Tunnel) outboard. Mercury’s OptiMax engines are an affordable, competitive engine which is clean and green.

Mercury is the leader in the marine industry and dominating in it’s racing and high-performance division. In 2011, Mercury was awarded the Environmental Award for Economic Feasibility and Sustainability by the Union International Motonautique (U.I.M.). Engines like the OptiMax allow professional powerboat racing teams to compete while being environmentally responsible.

2013 will be Tammy’s first full season racing in the Formula 2 class. Tammy is no stranger to success on the race course. She is the top female tunnel boat racer in Formula 3, the first runner-up in the series points race in the American Powerboat Superleauge. She is the 2011 Divisional Champion and 2010 Regional Champion.

Mercury - Canada joined forces with Tammy earlier this year to challenge the River Siene at the worlds toughest tunnel boat race, the 24 hours of Rouen, in France. Tammy and her team of international women powered there Mercury OptiMax engine to an incredible 4th place finish.

“It’s a dream come true. We wouldn’t be able to create a Formula 2 program without Mercury’s support. It is fantastic when an amazing company, like Mercury - Canada not only supports your dreams but allows you the honor of representing them, there products, employees and dealers. I plan to make, Georges Jalbert and Mercury proud of our team and there commitment to us.” Tammy Wolf

Formula 2 powerboat racing (a.k.a. SST 200) currently competes throughout the world including two major series in the American Power Boat Association (A.P.B.A), as well as, the World Cup in Europe (U.I.M). With the recent addition of a Canadian event, the team is working on finalizing race dates in the USA, Canada and Europe for 2013.

“It’s wonderful to support our Canadian drivers and teams not only in North American but on the world-wide stage. We believe in our products, there

performance and showcasing them in the toughest conditions possible. We are extremely excited to work with this team, Tammy and her family have had a long standing relationship with Mercury and it’s employee’s.” Georges Jalbert,

General Manager, Mercury - Canada

Mercury - Canada’s Formula 2 powerboat will be showcased at Canada’s Premier boat show the Toronto International Boat Show, January 12 - 20, 2013 at the Direct Energy Centre.
