ThunderCats, the two man tunnel hulls you saw at Dunnville and Gravenhurst, welcomes anyone who feels T750 or T850 class might be getting too technical for them, haha. Pretty simple rules over here.

I believe all T750 and T850 class motors are legal in ThunderCats in one class or another. New and used hulls available. Tube/ski/fish/have fun/snorkel/take 4 people out/store in corner of garage when not racing.

The basics:

MiniCat - Open to MiniCat hulls and ThunderCat hulls with any commercially available stock out of the box motors up to 15 hp.

TC750S - Any commercially available stock out of the box motors up to 50 hp. Effective 2014, engines must be models that meet CARB 3 Star ratings.

TC750 - Any motors that don't exceed 50 hp ratings.

P750 - Box stock Tohatsu 50D engines. True UIM world class rules. Race all over the world. Get the chicks and the $$. haha.

X Class - Motors that don't exceed 950cc.

Ages 9 years and up.

4 Ontario teams currently. 8-10 Michigan area teams.

Nope... submit a rule change if that is what you want.

haha, it's good as long as you put a nose cone, omc trim, and yamaha mid. It'll be sweet.

i'm just an outsider looking in but it seems to me the Tboat classes are very competitive right now. and in my experience not in boating but in human behaviour .. if you make it hard to race with paperwork and evening out the field by setting rules that create hoops people have to jump through this sport wont grow.

people want easy weekend fun. if its too hard to race nobody will do it.

the field will even its self because no one wants to race alone.

JMO

There is NOTHING complicated here, anyone can come out for a weekend of fun with their STOCK engine, with any number of available STOCK blocks. The limits/rules of technical spec are for those that want to go beyond out of box stock, to know where the limits are and managing expectations. NO ONE is required to modify their engine to acheive 120/130/140/....160 psi, machine a low cc head, blueprint their engine, put on a light flywheel, clean thier ports, all LEGAL.....But there will be limits, because there are others who want to win season points and want to know they have a fair chance without having to go beyond certain threshold for a competitive engine. If someone shows up without having done ANY work to their engine, of any kind, seems pretty easy to me,...meet the safety inspection criteria, get on the water and race....."...and evening out the field by setting rules..."...when did this become a detriment to win fairly, in any sport, activity, business?
The fact remains, as TG and Hdog have always emphasized:
- Show up
- Good start
- Good prop
- Good setup
- Good driving

PS: Jimbo, this not aimed at you.

All jokes aside. Whether you run T or Thunder Cat you will still need a pre-race safety inspection and a Tech inspection. It doesn't matter if you have 4 boats or 20 boats. Paper work these days is automatic. Both T and Thunder Cat use multiple motors. Unless all classes are Mod you need spec sheets etc. to do the Tech portion. As for parts in T they are just that- parts. SO has classes with custom mids, they all have speed master gear cases etc.. T is just a different class in the group. THE BIGGEST!!

To Clear up the concerns about mid sections, nose cones, power trim, engine spec sheets and new powerheads and complete motors.

Mid-sections
We allow 15 inch mids. The 15 inch OMC 49 and 56 mid is available NEW from Seaway Marine in Seattle. The Yamaha 70 has 15, 16-17, 19 -21 mids. The length varies depending on the foot you run. The smaller foot reduces the length. You can't run shorter than 15. It doesn't matter how you get to the length. So you can cut a long to a short. It is less costly in the Yamaha than buying a 15.

Nose cones
People think we have nose cones because the other class in stock outboard run quickie;speed master gear cases and the nose cone is faster. That is NOT the reason. The later model nitro case is a little faster on a T boat compared to an SST60 case. That is why most run the nitro. The nose cone rule is there because the ONLY NEW gear case you can buy is an SST60 from Seaway.

Power trim
The purests in SO think we shouldn't run power trim. We are the only class that does. Up until 2012 the UIM T class only allowed power trim on Celled boats. In 2012 you saw NO celled boats in UIM T and in 2012 they allow power trim on non celled boats. We were just a year head of dropping cells and we allowed the power trim because it was on the FV boats that made up the class.
Power trim was available from both OMC and Yamaha for 15 inch models.
OMC had a thru transom style of there 15 inch 49 and a clamp on one for regular boaters.
The Pro 50 Yamaha trim, which gets a lot of play on this site is actually the original power trim system in Canada for the 1992 70B 15 inch 70 hp yamaha. That is the reason for the part number having the 6H3 prefix meaning 70 hp and not 6H5 prefix meaning 50 hp.
You can change the clamp bracket to add power trim. It does't matter which one you use. Some use CMC power trim set backs. Again it is part of the power trim system, so your legal.

Engine Spec Sheets
The reason you do not see them in any of the SO rules. They are for inspector's ONLY. If you happen to get one there is a note on the spec sheet telling you not to blueprint following the specs on the sheet. There should be minor differences between motors.

New powerheads and complete motors
To-day provided you are willing to spend the money you can build a new OMC 15 inch, 1986-8, 56 cubic inch motor.
I posted the power head part. It was over $4000.00
The mid, tuner, gearcase etc are available from Seaway.
New cowls are available thru any dealer.

Some clarification:

2012 UIM Rulebook, pages 296, Rule 553.01, Mono Hull rules section (T Classes) quote:
UIM rulebook wrote:

The use of powertrim is allowed for monohull boats provided with safety reinforced cockpit, per rule 509.

(509 is details on a safety cell and straping the driver in)
You don't have to follow the UIM rules... countries are allowed to adjust to suit their region. I'm just saying in 2012 no UIM T class permitted trim without a safety cell. Maybe you are reading RYA rules or something? I've not read them.

100% not true. Every racer has access to the tech manual for traditional stock outboard classes that covers every motor we use. CBF Rule book clearly states in rule 13-A tthat CBF uses the APBA Tech Manual. It is available to anyone on the APBA website here: http://www.apba.org/sites/all/files/doc ... -31-12.pdf The manual is also on the CBF website.
Some amount of blue printing is legal in most classes.

Edit: added RYA comment

Acutally to correct myself... CBF has the PRO Tech Manual on it's website in error, LOL. The right one is in the link I posted though.
