Since we started the classes in 2006 we have been constantly re-adjusting the classes to fit the needs and wishes of the racers. We have a very unique group in T class and the class is very successful and growing year after year because of the group. We are about to take another giant step in the growth of this class.

Current State...T850
We are seeing a split in the class into 2 separate groups.
[1] a group that totally uses all the rules and have very high output motors
[2[ a group that does very small changes to the stock motor.
No problem at all. We run the boats in heats where they all competitive.

Current State...T750
The class is just starting to grow. Racers like the slower 60 mph speeds, the lower cost and the competitive ability of their normal family cottage dual purpose boat. In 2014 we will see the first 4 stroke motor and the 49 twin carb 2 stroke 49 Mercury. There has been a lot of concern over the 2 stroke Mercury and we do not know how the 4 stroke will run. In 2013 we tested a 70 OMC 3 cylinder BIG Foot in the class on a true race boat. It was very competitive and could dominate with another year of racing. This is all good for the class. I think we can have two separate heats in T750 same as we do in T850 to fit these motors in. We just need the boat count.
Here is how I see the T750 class in 2015.
T750...IS A 100% STOCK CLASS ...NO 160 lb rule
[1] group one is all STOCK 3 cylinder 43 cubic inch motors and all STOCK 2 cylinder motors with a maximum prop shaft rating of 60 hp. It is your 55 mph class on the oval.
[2] group two is all stock 4 stroke, ETEC, 49 OMC [Small Carb big foot] and twin carb 3 cylinder 49 Mercury, big foot 60 Mercury and big foot 53 cu. in. yamaha.. It would be a 57 mph class on the oval. The difference is their acceleration.

This really expands the options for T racers. Plus it allows the use of less costly hard to find parts. Racers will have 4 different groups and more boats will fit into the COMPETITIVE groups! AND A BEGINNER CAN START AT THE LOW END AND FIND THE GROUPING THAT BEST FITS THEM!!

Interesting....as you noted boat count will be needed to create the issue. I think you need to generate enough interest in the grey area to establish another class with out taking away from T750 the way it is.

The main reason for the thread was to to be proactive with what could happen in T750 in the 2014 race season. We have two new Mercurys racing in the class. "the way it is" they are legal. Should they dominate the class, I think it is important for current T750 racers to realize we do have other options down the road. For several future racers who have these grey area motors, it should encourage them to sign up. Hopefully this thread will generate more interest and improve the boat count.

How can we find the time to run 4 separate T class races? We barely get in the 2 T classes now. Are you suggesting all the boats run together in 2 races, 750 & 850, and score the individual classes as sub groups?

We run two heats of T850 a lot of times now. If we had enough T750 boats we would run 2 heats of them.
Don't think too far ahead we currently only have enough T750's for 1 heat.

Good question! Remember TORC talked about and voted to add a SO class this summer too.
