Our American friends are thinking.
Interesting rules
The class is called "Trophy Tunnels". They plan to keep the motor "STOCK" and that will keep the price of racing down.
1. ALL APBA OPC Safety Rules for SST 120 apply.
2. 1,200 pounds, boat, motor and driver

3. Motor Rules:
A. 2.0 Liter Mercury V-6 ONLY.
B. Blocks must be STOCK, no behind the liner ports: Horizontal Reed motors will be oval ports but must have "NOTCHED" exhaust ports. Vertical Reed motors can be oval ports without the notch. .030 over bore maximum.
C. 26 CC minimum with surface gap plug screwed in head.
D. 4 3/4 shfitable gearcases ONLY. CLE and Sport Masters are also legal. No left hand gearcases. Reverse gear must be in gearcase, but doesn't have to be shiftable.. Any Nose Cone is legal. Skeg can be added to. It in the eyes of the inspector, if the skeg is too small, the driver or owner will be required to change gearcases to a "LEGAL" one before they can race.
E. Stock production flywheel or Mercury's aluminum flywheel in unmodified condition is legal.
F. 12 inch or more mid section length.
G. Any cowling or no cowling.
H. Carb venturi diameter is the same as SST 120.
4. Points and number system to be announced.

What are the boat requirements?

I would guess SST 120 specs. 16 to 17 ft tunnels and maybe to include Mod VP hulls.

Question and answer
I also saw the post on Ron Hill’s site about the Tunnel Class. Do you think it would work in Ontario?

The key to making any class grow is first to look for boats in your immediate area that fit the new class. We don’t have a lot of tunnels around and the people who own them would likely be more interested in something like a SST 120 class. It is 100% true that the cost of new race motors like the SST200 and F4 limit the number of people who can afford to race in these newer classes. Ron has tried hard to develop other new classes like Fat C which is a 50 hp stock motor tunnel class. COR [Classic Outboard Runabout] is growing slowing in the states. There are many boats in Ontario that fit COR. We can’t find the right motor[s] to get large enough interest to move forward on COR.

I don't know jack about setting up a true sst tunnel but running a full size GC on one sounds detrimental to ones immediate future.

Years ago they ran a class called SL which ran the big gear case. Ted actually had his oldest son run an F1 tunnel with a 15 inch large gear case 260 Mercury. They run quit well and they don't break. The speeds were in the low 100's in the kilo and mid to high 80's on the oval. There could be some old video around.

I was informed that GARRY McARTHUR who later in his life was the OPC inspector for CBF was a strong running in this V6 SL tunnel class.. I was told he has the kilo record at over 100 mph and his motor was a SUZUKI!! Maybe someone has a picture of the boat. It must have been a 20 inch mid section!!
