There is a TORC member in Gravenhurst who has owned a RACE OMC Vixen for over 15 years. Interesting that there could be two in the same town. Or maybe? this is the same boat?

A few interesting things about the Vixen.
- it was only made 73 to 76
- the Viper was built at the same time and was popular
- it is not a core hull
- there were some pure race hulls built in 1976
- the VooDoo appeared in 1987
- Deltas appeared in 1974
- Critchfields in 1987-8
- the Vixen was nose heavy and really slowed down with 2 passengers
- SST60 and T850 OMC 56'rs never ran on this hull...race hulls ran OMC 49's

Would the boat be a good T850 with an OMC 56'r.......YES!! & the nose heavy , plus 14.5 length would make it a VERY good rough water boat.
As a pleasure boat..install inline seating.

Steve, were you the only one racing a Vixen in the mid 80's? How do we tell the difference between the production model and the race model? The owner of this Vixen says it is a different Vixen and not the TORC members [RACE] boat. This boat appears to be painted red over white gel-coat, it has no aluminum trim and the white plug in the dash could be the original centre steer position.

Looks nice with an SST60

Here is one racing with a Mercury.....running nose high unlike the other Vixen hulls...race model?? NOTE STEERING WHEEL ON THE RIGHT SIDE NOT CENTRE STEER.

Not sure of the difference. Assume the race one had stringers like the Voodoos. I had a production one, the only thing I changed other than blueprinting the hull was a small trim tab at the back of the pad.

Steve, I could not find any race built Vixen interior pictures , but looking at the other race version models. I think you are correct.
All the race versions were called COMP models and they are ALL stringer boats. Like the COMP VooDoo Jim Tucker built they were light weight. I did find a post from a racer with an original COMP Vector [17 ft] and it weighed 350 lbs. Jim would have copied Hydrostreams layup for the COMP VooDoo and you know they weighed less than 200 lbs. [some 160 to 170 lbs] The COMP Vixen likely weighed 225 lbs.
That is a same weight as the current T class Critchfields and Allisons. So these Vixens would be very competitive. The problem is likely the same as the COMP VooDoo.......there are few left because they broke and a few sunk! I think the main reason is APBA adding minimum weight limits to the OPC classes. By the mid 80's FE/EP boats minimum weight was 850 lbs so there was no need to have a 200 lb boat. This also explains why the original Critchfield were heavier.

Stringer Vixen
http://www.screamandfly.com/attachment. ... 1032580263

Steve, great picture of your 150 lb VooDoo . Most do not remember how crazy fast these super light VooDoos were. Many people blew them over in their first test session. Notice how the transom is cut down to approximately 21.5 inches to run the 15 inch motor. You can also see the stringers in the VooDoo and they are similar to the Vixen stringers in the picture above. The boat appears to have broke at the nose were the drivers feet are. Very common with FE/EP/FV/T boats.

I think this is your test!

Just to show how fast these boats were, you only need to look at the records.
In 87 the CBF FE/EP boats were 49 OMC stock motors, no power trim and no set backs allowed.
Steve's VooDoo ran 70-71 mph in race trim.
The APBA speed record was set with a one off built Allison hull running 12 inches set back at 70-71 mph.
The CBF Deltas were also super light in those days.
Top Gun and Todd Clarke were the first to run light Lee craft and Oasis hulls in the early 90's

The "test" video was the maiden voyage. The bat flip caused the front keel to crack and you can see the repair in the picture. The only time a Voodoo was wet before that was the original mule plug created from a delta hull and a V-King deck. We cut the transom down. The boat broke at Jim's house in Hastings after stuffing it, going over another boats wake.
In Columbiaville. MI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=41b49FieyR8 the boat went 70.2mph in 14.21 seconds in the 1/4 mile.
