Must be short shaft parts for midsection and drive shaft parts . Powerhead parts can be either long shaft or short shaft.
Thank-you

Mike all of your comments about 30 to 50 hp 3 cylinder 2 stroke Yamahas on this and other threads have shown to be accurate .
- hard to find
- they’re very good motors
- running ones are expensive
- less expensive ones are in rough condition
- many have twisted cranks and/or drive shafts
- few parts motors..and many are junk or missing key parts
May I also add.- new replacement parts are very expensive and the cost to rebuild or make major repairs is very costly. Most of these motors are well over 25 years old. I few years ago the asking price for a running motor as under $1000.00. Now that same motor asking is over $2000.00. Some asking over $3500.00. Tiller models have become popular.
Many on this site have been successfully buying Pro 50 Yamaha parts motors. Normally paying in the $500.00 range. The trim unit is still popular and used in other applications notably OMC short shaft T boats and has resale value, as does the gearcase. Pro 50 parts motors are sold quickly.

I agree 100% with you.
I've been watching the market for quite a few years and old outboards and boats in general have doubled in price.
How can you blame the seller when new is no longer affordable for the average Joe

There were several 6J8 30 hp Yamahas come up for sale and one 40 hp short shaft Yamaha. The 40 short shaft was sold in a few hours. I lucked out on a late 1990’s 30 hp yamaha long shaft. I was listed as having a gearcase issue. On inspection it also had a serious powerhead issue. Seller sold it then as a parts motor. The interesting thing about the motor is it has late 1990’s factory power trim like the 4 stroke model.. The serial number/model number matches. Never heard of or seen another 2 stroke 6J8 with factory trim. Anyway the trim works so that is a bonus. For starters I will mount the mod 30 Speedmaster powerhead on this motor, switch the carbs, electrics etc and get it running. I was also successful in finding some 15 inch parts for the NOS nose coned 6J8 gearcase.

30 hp Yamaha 1999 model long shaft with factory power trim.
In my search to find 6J8 3 cylinder parts I found and purchased a parts motor with factory power trim.
I tried to reference the motor without any luck. No 30 hp model had factory power trim.
Well ...now another one shows up....exactly the same model and year as my parts motor.

For those of us that like these 30 Yamahas it’s nice to know there is a factory power trim model.
