Nice motor! Too bad so far away! I'd be nervous shipping it. Price will go up pretty good likely anyway.

I have used Yellow Freight. Strapped motor on a skid and picked it up at their Mississauga warehouse which is close to the customs office. Easy process.

As for the motor..rated 50 hp but dyno's 59 to 60 hp out of the box. Only 50 hp that must run on premium fuel.
Two weakness the prop shaft and the crank. Pin the crank and heat treat the prop shaft and its perfect.
Oh, blue print it. 65 to 70 hp.

Welding the crank is legal for racing in all associations. Prop shaft, not sure. But in my limited experience, never heard of anyone having issues with them on ThunderCat's anyway.

Cranks are welded overseas because the thundercat guys cant keep them in the water its the loading and unloading that kills it. for flat water i dont think you would ever have a issue

as far as prop shafts if your not going to use it to chop wood like i do it shouldn't be a issue as well.

Before that motor ran on Thunder Cats, it ran in an APBA class classed Formula 50. Stock 50 hp motors on 12 to 13 foot Sport C style tunnels. The Formula 50 class was developed and supported by Hydro Tec. Wayne thought is would be a great promotion Show Case for Yamaha and Yamahas 50 hp motor. The Yamaha was doing well until someone ran one of the 50D Tohatsu's in the class. [this model]. The Tohatsu was superior and it took a well built Yamaha to competite with it. The crank issue came up on both the Yamaha and the Tohatsu and most non pinned motors failed in a few races. The Tohatsu prop shaft problem was a costly problem. These tunnels were running 70 to 75 mph on the oval and the kilo was in the 80's. They ran big pitch [22 and 23] props. Heat treating is a common and legal practise. Your just going thru heat cycles to change to improve the strength of the metal.

at that speed then it might be a issue on the prop shaft but is there anyone here in Canada running that speed? if its not broke why fix it i say. Steves Thundercat hauls ass and he is no where near 75mph

SOLD for $1602.00 A lot for a motor of that age and not knowing its condition
Just shows people are looking for these motors. Glad I have 3 of them including a NOS.

I priced shipping for and the best I could get was $700 or so to buffalo. I paid less that to ship 2 motors to Washington so he must live in an odd area or something.

$700.00 is costly shipping for sure. Good you checked first. Andrew I may have some 50 yamaha tiller parts this week. I am going to look at a long shaft tiller, manual start motor this week. IF? I get it I will post the parts. I am only interested in the crank shaft out of it.
