Does anyone have a way to time their practice test runs without a bunch of equipment. I thought of markers and a stop watch but trying to drive a v-pad and hit a stop watch accurately might be difficult. Are there any phone apps that work?

The best thing to use for that type of testing is to get a VBox. They aren't overly cheap but they are probably the best and most accurate way to measure without getting an AIM and have a permanently mounted gauge. The vbox runs its own software and suction cup mounts anywhere in the boat so it doesn't have to be a permanent addition. The onscreen display shows only a few functions but has a whole pile of information when plugged into your computer. I think it comes set with your standard 1/4 mile, 1/2 mile, etc. but I believe you can also set your distance to be 660' or 800' as well - but would have to check.

:?: Hey Mike, let me know if you can set it for 660 & 800 ft. rather than 1/8 or 1/4 mile. Thx Thom. Also, what model VBox are you referring to?

you want the Racelogic Vbox PerformanceBox. it is very resonably priced when compared to an aim system, and is also a good tool even if you do have an aim dash as you can veiw your times without having to plug in a computer to your logger.

Hey Thom, it's fully configurable to display any distance or metrics you want. You also don't have to push a start button as it will automatically start recording once you hit 8mph. hold your foot in it as long as you want because the timer and speed will only record up until your settings point you have asked for.

Thx Mike. Do you have the VBox Sport that has Bluetooth to your cell phone, or the model with the built in display?

I don't have either right now but have been looking at getting the performance box with the built in display. I've been talking with them and they answered those questions for me.

A few years ago when they first came out I considered purchasing one then I realized I just need to borrow one for a day or two or less… Even a rental or shared ownership ... :D
The way things are going I think I am just going to wait for the app ... and one of them fancy racing boats to go with it
