I don't have any experience with V6 motors, so I can't offer an opinion motor wise, But, I have a lot of experience with the smaller motors and dealing with engine builders and dyno testing. DOC's comment is dead on. WE DON"T RACE DYNOS!
Many times the dyno sheet is too justify the bill for the engine work. What you saw on the dyno doesn't necessarily transfer to the water. I now use dyno tests different than I did in the past. I dyno a powerhead that I am happy with on the race course and one that I have proven race results. In every case the powerhead results show that the motor is not at the high end of the horsepower range. Some are 5 to 6 hp less. But, what the chart shows is a wide, flat power curve over a 2000 to 2500 rpm range where the torque and horsepower is very consistant.

A dyno is only as good as its operator...and in reality should only be used to show improvements over a baseline. Dyno the motor stock, make changes, rerun the test to see improvement....the actual number is useless in the real world (we don't race dynos)
Good question...I gained 2-3mph by going to a CES spec motor with a cut stock head (over a stock motor with the same cut head)...and since my motor was 70hp stock...and a CES is 70hp...I guess my answer would have to be zero hp = 2-3mph....just think how many mph I would get if I added even 1 addition hp...infinity!!

Stevo was over on the weekend...once he gets a couple of beers in him he won't shut up...parks the chair and wants to fight MMA style. He helped me with the quantum physics involved with Yamaha modification....gotta keep up with that pretty blue eBay motor in "someone's" basement...

If only I knew someone with a dyno..

Bench racing is always good entertainment.
Hey, just put a K&N air filter on any engine. They advertise 10% gains in hp.
Wait a minute, does anyone know where the air filter is on a drag or T boat engine....................

k now im going to sound new,,,, because i am,,, my excel doesnt have an air filter? does it? isnt the cowling like an airbox on a sled,,? it creates a negitive pressure.. no? im pretty sure if i could bend that way,,, i could get my hands into my carbs on the excel with the cowling on.. not much restriction. or is that just because excels are awsome :?: :P
