Thanks! No, it's an old style (hydraulic trim, manual up down) 12" champ/F1 mid with through transom trim. I want to avoid cutting big holes in the transom if I don't have to, so I am thinking about making a set back type bracket so I can just mount everything outside on the transom. The only problem is if I use the trim ram that came with it I will need about 8" of setback, which wouldn't be ideal. Since the trim ram is actually significantly longer than it needs to be, I may just end up making my own shorter hydraulic trim cylinder and bracket to mount everything as close to the transom as I can. It should end up being close to the new style (hydraulic in/out and up/down) studs down mids.

can you route hydraulic hoses above the transom, thru the splashwell area, ?

Sent the forms to the email address on them earlier today. Sorry it took me so long to get that done, things have been crazy around here lately. Right now I'm studying for an exam that is about 3 weeks away. After that is done I will be able to spend a lot more time working on the boat. I am hoping to get it wet and run it before the show, but even if I don't run it before it will all be put together and ready for the static display.

I heard the same things and was a little worried at first. I did A LOT of homework and reading on Eagle One before buying. I searched for and read every post I could find on S&F about Eagle One and Noah Legear, going as far back as 2004. Most of the complaints directed toward him were about fiberglass quality in his boats, and his "abrasive personality". I did find a complaint about one of his engines but it was from someone expecting a full warranty on his "performance" or race engines which he very clearly states (on his site and a number of posts on S&F) that he doesn't offer which I think is pretty common on custom built race engines. From what I read, he didn't appear to be in the wrong. Most of the posts bashing him and his products seemed to be made by the same one or two people holding a grudge, who keep bringing it up every so often long after it was dealt with.

As far as his personality, I called and spoke to him before buying. He was happy to discuss not just the engine I was interested in, but also just racing and boats in general. He gave me lots of good set up and rigging advice and always seems happy to help. After talking to him, and a few scream and fly members who have dealt with him in the past, I felt comfortable buying from him. When the shipping company lost all of the paper work and sent my engine to the wrong warehouse he insisted on calling and sorting it out himself, for me.

Most of the other complaints about his work seem to be more about sloppy wiring/aesthetics, than the actual quality of his work/engines. When I opened up my engine the wiring looked nice and neat, and everything is labeled. I guess I won't know for sure until I run it, but it sure looks good so far.

Great feedback! You did your homework that's for sure.

Can't wait to see the boat rigged

Boomer, routing the hydraulic hoses above the transom shouldn't be an issue. My boat doesn't have a splash well like most boats do. If you take off the back cowl it's all open from the back of the capsule to the transom and real easy to work on and put stuff where I want. The hardest part will be finding/making a hydraulic trim ram short enough to let me mount everything as close to the transom as I can. There is only about 2 inches of useable stroke before hitting the stops either way on the mid, and the ram that came with the mid has almost 3 times that, and is way longer than needed.

Well, summer officially started for me this week. Wrote my final exam on Tuesday morning and the first thing I did when I got home was start taking the mid apart to get it ready for sandblasting and powder coating.
Image
Other than some slightly milky oil, everything looks good. I was able to get the clamp apart and the vertical pivot shaft out no problem, but now I am stuck.
Image
It looks like the short worm gear and big gear/nut need to come out together (meshed) and I wanted to check here before forcing things apart. There are holes at either end of the worm gear which had small balls held in by springs that sit into the adjustment bolt shaft, is that bolt/shaft just pressed through the worm gear? Are there splines that fit in the center of the gear?
Image
With the balls out of those holes, it looks like the shaft should press out from the center of the worm gear and out the side of the mid. It didn't want to tap out with a punch, but I didn't hit it very hard. One end has a hex bolt head and it doesn't look like anything is holding the other end.

Do I just need to hit it harder? May just be a bit stuck. Once I get those gears out I can blast and powder coat the mid and steering arms and put everything back together and get the engine running finally.

I was able to get the mid powder coated and back together for the show in Gravenhurst, looks brand new again.

I was set up beside Speemaster Racing's F1 boat, another Scycraft hull, built with a Hofman cell.

I had a great time at the show, loved watching the old boats run.

I think I have caught the racing bug. I have been able to crew for, and help out an F1 team at the Bay City River Roar, the on water demonstration at the show in Gravenhurst, and the Valleyfield regatta this past weekend in Quebec. Brian Venton (17), drives for the team I have been working with, he was running in the demo at Gravenhurst in the red F1 boat.

I think I have changed my mind on set up... again... Pretty sure I've found a good #6 speedmaster, and parts to run my engine LH, and am going to set it up so I can run SST120/F2 or formula 150 to start out for next year. I might even try to make it to the race in Kankakee if things work out.

I know this is probably what I should have just done from the start, but I'm learning as I go.

I'm a bit closer now, I picked up the gear case this morning.

It's an older style studs up speedmaster VI, fairly low time, and in good condition.

Big difference in size between the #6 and my full size lower.

It's taken longer than originally anticipated to get here, but it is almost ready to hit the water.
Image
I finished up the wiring and fuel system this week, and pulled it out to run on the hose today. It started right up. Finally!!
Image
Next week I will hook up the steering, then have to switch to the left hand flywheel and starter, and set the timing again. After that I can put the gear case on and take it to the water for its first test drive.

Any chance one of you guys have a flywheel puller and timing light I could borrow? If someone could give me a hand switching the flywheel and setting the timing again for left hand rotation it would be greatly appreciated. I could bring the boat to someone else's shop if necessary.

Can't wait to finally get it in the water, hopefully next week.
