I recently added a blown up short shaft 30 hp yamaha to my parts motor collection. I was looking at it the other day and there seems to be several parts on it that could be interchangeable with the 40/50 hp Yamahas.
-Starter
-reeds
-water pump
-drive shaft is the same spline..Wonder if a 40/50 foot would bolt on the 30? If so that would be nice on a pontoon boat, work boat or a small tunnel hull where you could take advantage of the stronger gear case and better gear ratio.
-I think the power trim and clamp bracket off the 40/50 [even a Pro 50] will bolt right on the 30. That trim would be a nice addition on the GT30 boat.
Anyone else notice the same thing?

I can't say I've ever noticed on the ones I've seen. But it wouldn't supprise me, it's a lot cheaper to manufacture one type of parts that are interchangeable wouldn't it?

There's LOTS of interchangable parts between all the yamaha families. I personally think the 90hp powerhead is a direct swap for the 70....but Coulter doesn't believe me :).

The V4 and 2.6L share lots of parts but the V4's are lighter duty...so you can swap a V4 mid and lower on to a 2.6 for a lightweight version. They all share water pumps, starters, reeds. 70 and 90 use the same reeds too. A 2.6L or V4 lower will bolt onto a 3.1/3.3 mid but the snout hangs over...but it's a cool option if you need a small gearcase.

The crank bearing in my ET250 is the same as an R1 rear wheel bearing...go figure...

You're counting on the wrong guy for that....if you're going to buy merc gears you may as well buy the case to go with it. They are only really necessary with the HPDI anyways...and Boomer the 2.6 doesn't need 1.62s because they will rev and I haven't met one yet with enough torque to spin those gears with a big prop.

Pal you need to get the 70 going in a straight line before you even think about a 90... 90 degree turns at speed aren't cool
