Hey guys, I'm looking to get my Euro painted before this summer

Can anyone recommend a good paint shop?

depends on how crazy you want to go? i have shopped around quite a bit for this service and i think that 90% of shops are out to lunch on pricing. i had a quote for my talon from a guy in Orilla that was $12,000.... then a verbal quote from Ronny's marine for $8,000... now i get that these guys might be Good. but fuck me..... an 12,000 or 8,000 dollars for a paint job on a 8,000 dollar hull.. lets keep it scaled to size FFs.

painted 3 of my boats in the last 3 years with a company in Ajax and they use imron durable one stage paint and as long as you stay simple with one color its affordable. and they put in the time on prep work so it turns out great. only prob is hes busy all the time hard to even get a slot.

if you find a good paint guy please share him !

Thanks James, yeah that's what I was afraid of, no point in spending what the entire hull is worth

I'm only looking to get 2 or 3 colours in simple lines, nothing too crazy so hopefully I can find a quote that's at least reasonable.

if you can share your findings. as a well priced quality painter would secure the entire HPBC boating community. of the top of my head there are about 6 of us that want paint for our boats this winter.

Snuce, just to throw in my 2 cents, it all depends on what you want.
I was involved in show cars back in the day.
There was a 70 Chevelle done in my good friends shop that won best paint wherever it was showed.
It was still winning twenty years later!
For a cost estimate, there was 140 hours of prep in the drivers side inner door frame on that car to make it perfect!
The rest of the car got the same treatment. Brian at City Auto body sponsored the car. He has since passed away.
You have to choose a quality level between a scuff and shoot or a full on show quality job.
That's where the prices differ.
I have seen Ronny's work first hand, and it is incredible. He has years of experience and it shows.
QCE does great work and will work with you on pricing (read quality). And yes, Gene is ALWAYS busy!
The quality of Murph's work speaks for itself as well!
Painting is a time consuming process and labour is not cheap.
Paint is only as good as the substrate it is applied to.

Murph just sprayed the hull. I ended up painting the deck myself. Painting a boat isn't easy to ensure you don't get any over spray lines or runs on the hull, deck or interior. You either have to flip the boat or hang it from a hoist and lay on your back while you paint the bottom. I wouldn't want to be in the boat painting business for 1-2 K per boat based on all the prepping time and cost of materials and expect a factory gelcoat quality finish. I would expect a fair price should be in the 3K range based on 40-50 hours of prep and paint time @ $50-60/hr + 500.00 (and up) for primer and paint materials = $ 2500-3500 (1 colour). Now add the labour costs for additional colours to add masking time + more material costs for each additional colour and you can start to appreciate how the costs start to add up quickly for a nice looking paint job. The cost of applying any additional colours in vinyl would be another option. You have to ask yourself if you are ok with some "blips" in an economy paint job or if you expect a factory finish when you are looking for a quote and how the end result will affect the resale value of your boat.
