The hull is in pretty good shape now, cleaned up all the strakes and the pad. The deck needs attention, and we deleted the splash well as it was too far gone too save. We did the transom, stringers and floor then slapped it together to try it last fall. Itll see the last bit of work done after a little side project and get painted this summer.

The Kennedy molds were the best. Kennedy splashed several Checkmates around the same time. The 14 needle nose and the 16 round nose Checkmates were splashed. The 14 they called Barracuda and the 16 was their Marlin. There could have also been a 15 checkmate splash..not 100 percent sure.
Jake shelter and his brother Peter owned Kennedy boats. They both raced in OPC.

ok now for getting a bit real with a 2.42 gear ratio.
the surf 60 is probably pushing the 19 stainless at around 5500 and maybe if its very strong 5900.
most of the surf 60 era (early 1970's) engines topped out at 5500 with a 17 pitch prop.
so its nearer to 40mph unless already been radically worked on..
you need to find out what rpms the engine is doing, try borrowing a good engine tach to check it.

Thundercraft copied a later model 15 checkmate. The Kennedy had the round deck at the stern. The thundercraft was the flat rear deck style. Checkmate only raced the old 15. Kennedy boats did race some 14 footers. Still streaming had a 14.

I gps'd the delta at 50 with the surf 60, but it was running more consistently around 47. We are almost positive someones been at it but we havent taken it apart to find out. Its doesnt have the original cdi box, its got a cdi brand one on it. Im hitting the rev limiter with the 19 pitch, a buddy has a few better props we can try. The 21" prop we ran on it when the surf 60 was on the 13 checkmate was about 47-50 and the 19 was only about 45.

Okay so thundercraft copied the vmate hull and kennedy copied the mx 15 hull? Theres been a few older style checkmates up on kijiji over the years. Ive always like the newer vmate hulls over the older ones myself
