I've been looking at the 1448 Jon boats for a several years now, My wife talked me out of it the first time I found a deal. She asked me why I needed a third or was it a fourth boat at the time, I told her so I could go up north to some great fishing spots that I knew of, her response was but you never go up north. The desire has never left me and I've seen several vids on them, grant you not set up for racing but the average did 30 MPH with a 30 HP motor.

By the way, $2600 was the cheapest I found for a new 1448 Jon boat

30 Mph in a chop on a windy day in a ridiculously light boat can be wicked fun, I do it all the time in the Thunder Cat.
Sure the T-Cat will do over 60 but how long can one actually hold onto a tiller at those speeds even with a steering damper? Not very long in my experience.
It's all about the fun.

Go get your 1448 Mike, you'll have a blast and pay pennies for gas doing it.

Ya Mike, my thoughts are similar to yours. Kinda miss the functionality of my bass boat but if I'm gonna get a utility boat it'd better be tough and functional.

Think I'd go for the Vee, bit easier on the kidneys. Can always add ribs and runners if there's potential for serious abuse.

And should there be a chance to race, so much the better.

QUOTE: Before you guys get all excited about custom aluminum race hulls, wouldn't it be prudent to actually ask the question...
- How many Racer Dads are out there and how many of them want to step up to the plate for $5-8K

First of all the reason for the thread is to see if there is interest in this type of boat and class. I believe this is the first time anyone has posted this idea. You are correct the the cost would be in that price range or maybe higher depending on the motor. Would people pay that amount? I know for a fact that many have invested $12,000.00 in a T boat. In stock outboard 10 people in TORC alone have purchased A/B sidewinder motors for $4500.00 US. You never would have thought or seen that a few years ago. Times are changing. It is good to get excited and have new ideas. Who knows maybe a young person likes this idea, talks to a major boat manufacturer, gets a few boats built, gets the distributorship for them, posts the boat on Scream and Fly and sells 100 of them. Dreams are good!

I saw this 14 foot V boat listed. I do not know anything about the model, it looks like it would run very well with a 40 hp.
