T racers these are important things to remember about T class races.
[1] it is a big advantage to have the lead at the start.
[2] Water conditions change after lap 2 and help equalize the competition.
[3] you know where your boat fits compared to the competition
[4] driving skill is a must in order to win. Driving errors lose races
[5] a boat needs to be 2 to 3 mph faster in order to pass.

Now look at the start options.

Clock Start
You have a chance in every heat to get the lead.
You prop your boat for best mid range and top end.

Dock Start
To get the lead it is about Hole Shot.
Its about horsepower to weight.
Most races are a parade after lap one.
There can sometimes be a battle for the top 2 or 3 boats.
If your boat is not a top runner you will never have a chance to win.

NASCAR start
Because of the draw for start positions and the changing of the starting order for each heat you will automatically get a good start position for some heats. You will have a chance to lead. If you have pole, you will have the lead at the start. You know ahead of time where you are starting in the heat and can use the prop best suited for that position. There is more passing in the heats and driving skill makes a difference. If you can hold the lead for 2 laps the only boat that has a chance to beat you is the second place boat.

Let's have all the T Class drivers vote on the four options presented to us by Don. I opt for either dock start or rolling flag. Don, can you keep score???

Sure you can send me a private message or just post on this thread.
AS OF Feb 2, 2018
DOCK START....... 3 Votes
NASCAR............. 1 Vote
ROLLING............ 1 Vote

You could set up the ROLLING START similar to a Drag Drag race start.
Have the DRAG start tree facing the fans on shore.
The boats line up in the swallow water facing the starting tree..
The boats are on both sides of the start tree same as a drag race.
The boats ALL idle up to the start line at the same time and the tree goes green to start the race.
This fits with the drag race theme of the event.

We will race what ever doesn't matter to us, just out to race and have a good time.

Get Serious! This isn't your Tuesday night bowling league. Make some decisions. :D
I vote for clock starts followed closely by dock starts. Clocks are simple and anyone can kill it or totally eff it up.

The clock starts will remain for TORC. This is the start discussion for OPBRA drag events. They will not do clock starts, because they have no equipment. So back to your making a decision on what you prefer, of the choices outlined. I guess bowling it is.

I Have not voted yet... :D , but i have a question, everyone that Votes Dock start is planning on coming with two guys min per crew right? the 750 guys flag/ safety boats for the 850, and 850 for the 750, so they cannot help each other out holding boats at the dock. My 750 crew ran flags for both 750 and 850, so if i dock start id just float around with no one holding me perhaps if float cross ways infront of everyone else
Moral of story everyone would need alot more help to dock start

If everyone opts for the dock starts, I am sure we will find you someone to hold your boat. That can be discussed at drivers meeting. As we assign turnboat duty, we can assign dock start hold duty.
