Those of us lucky enough to have had Rob Scythes work on our boat whether it be a repair, blueprinting, rigging or building a new boat ALL appreciate the quality of workmanship Rob achieves in the project.
When he works on a wooden boat especially his new builds, the boat is like a piece of fine furniture both inside and out. Every part is perfect in fit and finish. No small details are missed.
His skill and talent shows in the repair of other boat manufacturers hulls. Some repairs include rebuilding a large portion of the boat due to a serious crash. Those rebuilds end up flawless the boat looks like new.
Rob also has an eye and the knowledge to make other boat manufacturers boats better. These alterations to the hull go unnoticed to most. The owners don’t have stickers on their boats saying Rob modified the original hull. Reason is they don’t want the competition to know. They want to keep the advantage to themselves.

There were a few of us that had SCYCRAFT RACING on our boats. We told other racers Rob had worked on the boat. We were following Rob’s example of Sportsmanship! Rob was a racer himself. Most times in his race class he was racing against boats that he had worked on, repaired and even built. If another boat was damaged at the event, he was first there to help and many times did the repair himself on site so the boat could race.

Rob and his brother started racing in SE class in the 1970’s ....49 cubic inch tunnel . SST 60 is a later extension of that class.
The APR SUPERLEAGUE was the premier show case for the top SST 60 boats. In 2008 they had the last UIM World Championship for the class. Rob worked on several of the Canadian boats that raced in those events thru the years.
Three Canadians stood out Tammy Wolf, Mike Hooper and Jim Whittington.
Mike’s boat was a SCYCRAFT....Mike won several APR events including the Nationals.
Jim’s boat was a Pugh with a SCYCRAFT bottom. Jim was the first Canadian to win in APR in 2004 and he won the World Championship in 2008.

To this day many of Rob’s boats are not recognized as SCYCRAFT boats because several of the hulls have other safety cells installed in the boat. Building a cell is a big cost and many times the only part useable after a serious crash is the safety cell. Those used cells are far less costly to purchase than the cost of a new cell.

Here are some SCYCRAFT examples.

Couldn't agree more.

Rob did a great job painting and re-rigging my 1984 Cougar 19 a couple of years ago.

Rob and his brother John also did a lot of work back in 1979 on my Seebold SE hull.
