Buy a middle of the range outfit that you can race without initially spending more money.

What would be the price to buy a boat like this?

For the boat only.... rigged $1600. to $2500. For an outfit $3500. to $4500.
I think good examples of a boat in this range were Erik's and Shivers's VooDoos. Both boats were in very good condition and required no hull repair. By comparison you could have paid $500.00 to $1000. for a beat up VooDoo that requires $2000.00 in repair if you have to pay for someone to do it or spend a lot of your own time and money fixing it.

Same is true for the motor. You don't need a blueprinted cash cow to start. There are lots of motors under $1600.00 that can do the job.

The T850 class for 2013 is going to have the majority of the racers running exactly the same power head and cylinder head combination. We didn't plan it, but it is a major equalizer for the class. Several have decided to run the 1986 to 1988 OMC 56r fishing block. Several reasons. One that model has the 4 spline crank. The block is considered the best block for both cooling and fuel/air flow. And several have come available in the last few weeks at fair prices. They are a good bang for the buck.

They are working on the cylinder head this winter. It will not be the spec head for the class. It will be the head that works with this one block. If your running the same block and are interested in getting a head. Post here and they will add you to the list.

Question and answer
I was watching some Figure 8 Car Racing on TV. That type of racing would add a new challenge for boat racers. Has anyone ever thought of it?

The Thunder Cat boys would likely be the only group that would even consider the idea. In general we Canadians are too conservative to entertain something that dangerous. I must admit it sure would attract the fans to the races and be fun to watch.

Question and answer
Is there an easy way to switch side steering to centre steering and back again? I have a cottage boat and I would like to have the option of moving the steering wheel to the middle for racing and then back to the side for cottage use.

You didn’t mention the make of boat or if you had any gauges mounted in the dash. It is very easy if you haven’t mounted any gauges in the boat. If there are holes in the dash already you will need to alter one hole. Assuming there are no existing holes. First measure to see if the steering cable has enough length to allow you to move the steering wheel to the centre of the dash. If it will reach, make a template of the hole pattern for the wheel. Then get a large gauge like a speedo. I found that the flush mount style speedos had a larger base and they were big enough to cover the hole[s] for the steering wheel. If not you need to make an aluminum plate to cover the holes on which to mount the speedo. You position the steering wheel in the middle and use the speedo [plate] to cover the original position holes. To move it back just switch the speedo and the steering wheel. Remember you need a little longer water tube on the speedo. If your starting with no steering system use opposing dual ride glide. Make sure you have the correct cable length on both sides.

Question and answer
My question is about electric fuel pumps. Some run them and others do not. What is the advantage?

T rules allow you to run an electric fuel with or without the stock mechanical fuel pump. There are two advantage, The first is the electric pump insures you always have a good fuel supply to the motor. You only need 3 to 5 pounds fuel pressure, You can run the electric pump inline with the original stock pump. That gives you even more protection. Another advantage is starting provided your motor has primer style carbs. Fuel pump on..hit the primer and you get instant choke to start the motor. If you are on a budget and you want to improve the starting get one on the manual push style primers.
It does the same thing. If you have a new or fresh rebuilt stock fuel pump your fine.

Nothing to do with T class. What is the dog in the picture? It doesn't look like a Hounddog

That's Teddy. He is a 5 year old Shiba Inu with additude. Just ask Ryley. You never know if he is going to bit your face off or give you a kiss. He only likes one person 100% of the time and that is Dave. Teddy is difficult to read because he always has that friendly smile.
Here is a link when we got him. He is from New York State.

More future T racers. If they ask you for help please support them.
[1] Bruce Cormier is interested in racing either an OMC or a Yamaha 70CES. We should see him on the site shortly.
[2] Kevin McMillen is the fellow on the site selling the low cost VooDoo 50 hp OMC. Kevin wants to race T850 and he is looking at The Rapid Craft. Kevin has raced before and is the person I mentioned was the previous ownwer of Mike Hooper's blue Critchfield.
[3] Peter and Paul from Six Mile are interested in racing T850 with a Delta [Another Allison Killer] Two more great guys. Paul has raced EP before and also has a SST 120 ScyCraft. Their looking for a nitro gearcase.

Welcome to T Boat.

Question and answer
I am currently running in T class. I am racing for fun, There is no prize money. I don't want to have any motor inspections. I am OK with the safety inspections. There are others that want to do the same. What do you think?

I have no problem answering your question. First the inspection rule is not just a T Class rule. It is a general rule for all classes. You need to make up your proposal and present it at the CBF annually meeting. It cannot be done at the TORC meeting. T is based on the UIM T class. What you are trying to do is make T like Formula V an old cancelled APBA OPC class. I have the rules for that class if you would like to follow them. It maybe easier to get them passed compared to changing a general rule. Until that happens you have to follow the existing CBF rules.

Just a note on TORC safety inspections.
There will be more accountability for racers in 2012. The accidents in power boat racing in 2011 have put us under the mircoscope by the insurance providers. T class is working with TORC in developing a 3 stage check list. Each stage of the checklist must be signed off before going to the next stage. The finally stage is signed off at the boat ramp as the boat is being launched. You will not be allowed in the water until the form is signed off. You will have time between the stages to correct faults. The final stage covers helmet, lifejacket, shoes, cut suit, kill switch[s]. By having these checked last, it gives the racer opportunity to borrow just before the race. Previously these would have been checked much earlier in the day. The other stages cover the motor, boat rigging, floatation etc. Make sure you know the rule book, that is your responsibility.
