The early 90's 2.6 200 yami on my mastercraft is due for a little tlc.
I'm planning on doing all the regular stuff (plugs, fuel filter etc) but its developed a hard start / intermittent rough idle / occasional stall issue that needs to be dealt with, although the excessive smoke may come in handy in a week or two when the bugs come out.
It presents itself as a fuel issue and I was told last year (can't remember by whom) that it could likely be one of the fuel pumps gone bad. This sound like a good place to start and if so what's the best fix? Rebuild or replace?

Does the motor have an actual choke or is it a prime start motor?

With respect to the fuel pumps the best way is to replace them. If you choose to rebuild them make sure you have the diaphram tight/stretched/tensioned as it goes together....the pumps are never quite the same after rebuild but it can be done.

It is a choke motor, not a primer.
Best to go OEM for the pumps?
Between the fuel filter and the oil reservoir on the engine There's a black box with a spring return toggle switch on it. WTF is it and what does it do?

That spring return toggle switch is the float override to energize the remote reservoir oil pump I believe. Toggling it should run the remote pump to fill the onboard motor reservoir.

Now I will wait for Dok to chastise me on what that switch is :)

My 2.6 ran like a turd (hard to start, stalled, etc.) until a carb rebuild.

I think you toggle the switch to eject the motor off the boat and to the bottom of the lake.

It's the flux capacitor dumbass!! Dubber's right...refills the oil tank if you run low...

I'd buy an OE pump if it were me...

Is there a carb kit available or do you have to order individual parts?
