I have to paint my motor. What is the best paint to use for the mid section? I did one years ago, and used a PPG product and it turned out really well. I just can't remember which paint I used :? , and there is many different ones. I do remember it was a single stage.

I used colorite as they had a match for the lovely factory Yamaha Grey. It has stood up well on my cowl and mid for almost 5 years now I think. The lower started flaking off as I expected but overall it bonded well with the primer I used.

If you want something that looks awesome Mitchie powered coated his old 2.5 Merc and it was slick. Time consuming to tear it down and expensive but it looked real nice.

as Dubber said you could dismantle and powercoat,
if your spraying with a gun you could use nason single stage urethane, it doesnt cost alot...believe it or not i used water base basecoat and imron clear on my lower..both ways i have done and still look great

I'll be taking it completely apart and spraying with a gun. I wish I could the name of the stuff I used last time. I feel like a dumby walking into a ppg store asking for something I don't knoiw the name of. :( I have tore the house apart looking for the bill.

I just had to redo the mid section in the pan for my Mercury OptiMax the guy before me had you some sort of heavy grit sandpaper and then painted it with the spray bomb. So I went into max auto when I picked up PPG Delfleet Essentials (single stage) is what they gave me and it worked really well and colour matched perfectly... here's a picture of the motor after I did it and a picture of the paint can with colour details etc hope it helps
