The OMC's will face a major challenge next year with the addition of other outboard makes in the 2014 field.
So far we have added
[1] 2 maybe 3... 3 cylinder Mercurys [Delta, Allision, Rapid Craft]
[2] a Yamaha 3 cylinder [Baja]
[3] a Mariner 2 cylinder [Critchfield]
[4] a Tohatsu 3 cylinder [Oasis]
Add them to the current 4 OMC's and we will have a field of 7 to 10 boats.
Jake you may want to get your seat back in the T750 boat!
Kevin you should rig that Rapid Craft with the T750 motor!

Thom,
Its a similar motor to the 650xs, but way detuned! It has only two carbs and has been known to run similar speeds to a 60 OMC. I'm not sure which one has the advantage? Maybe the OMC will have more punch? It should be an interesting season in T750!

Well we look forward to seeing how they run. We are stuck with what we have. We have some work to do to catch up.

Thanks,

Thom

So far the preview of the 3 cylinder Mercury has been mixed. Some say it will be the best motor in T750. We have seen 2 run. One on a Delta and one on a VooDoo. Both ran in the 55 mph range. I think prop selection is going to play a major role in T750 next year. Jake has the OMC bar set high. 60 mph with acceleration...tough to match. When the guy pulls you out of the turn and out runs you on the straights. I think the Mercury and the Tohatsu can get the top end, but lack the acceleration. The 2 cylinder Mariner will out accelerate the others, but lacks the top end. Racer's have a tough call for their prop. The acceleration drops like a stone when you over prop these motors. I would run a big prop and take my chances on getting a good start.

I'm not 100% sure on why the 49 merc is allowed in T750....I can see making an exception for someone to run it if that's all they have (to help build the class) but should it be encouraged? Even if they are slow...there's no shortage of actual 750 motors to run is there?

I'd have to agree with Dok. I understand why we run motors larger than 850cc in T-850 because that's what a lot of boats had when the class was formed. T-750 has motors all below 750cc right now. If someone tunes up the merc really well, I'm sure it will dominate. It has the extra cubic inches. What will happen then? Add the 49.7 omc to compete?

DOC were you not part of the rule committee that put the Mercury in the class?

No, the mercury was all ready in before that committee existed. I think it's been in the rules for the past couple of years, believe it was put forward on the notion that it would perform like a true 750 motor, a couple of boats were already set up this way and we wanted to attract these people to race.
