Anyone here ditched cable and using an antenna and adding to that with Netflix and such? We have. Enjoying it so far. Getting 20 stations on the antenna, and have Netflix Canada... but for some shows we'd like to try and get Hulu. As I understand it, you need a USA internet address or something to do that? VPN and some other 3 letter acronym I cant remember. I read about it online but anything I read seems to be trying to sell me their service... or people talking about how this works and that doesn't and lots of contradictory info. Would like to follow the steps of someone who is actually doing it. If it costs a few $$ a month, that's fine. We use a PS3 for Netflix and such.

Anyone have any knowledge/advice on this kind of stuff?

yes mostly HD... it's up to the network what they send out... could be 1080, 720 or 480. all the main networks channels we get are 1080, their sub channels are usually lower res... but still good. My antenna is in my attic. Next week I hope to put it on the roof and I'm told we should get a few more stations. Antenna was $50 at staples, preamp was $20 at Canadian tire. Netflix is $12 a month for HD. Finances more or less are pushing us this route... but so far we're not really missing anything except the odd show on the specialty networks. Which I think USA Netflix/Hulu might get us. So $12 for Netflix, I dunno, say $8 for USA internet address... $20 a month instead of $70.

In Canada we get ripped off for everything. I still can't believe that we have to pay to watch TV.....They should be paying us to watch the television....not really anything to watch....motorsports, anything exciting is all gone in my opinion.

So will the indoor antenna's work just as well??

greatly depends on where you live and what is obstructing your views of the station towers... avatar says you are in Toronto... you should get Canadian networks without issue, and maybe a USA one or two. Buy an antenna at Walmart and try. If you don't get anything, take it back. That's how I started out.

Thanks. I will check that out tonight... but "downloading" sounds like it will only work for computers, not PS3 or smart box.

Thanks for the Tip Mitch...I've been poking around trying to figure that out myself.

I'm trying to do the same thing Andrew...I have expressvu right now and I can't quite seem to let it go. I HATE paying Bell (in general) for crap TV but we don't have access to the same over-the-air channels up here.

If I could get Hulu or something similar I'd go that route with Netflix.

I'm getting my courage up to axe our home phone too..

Our home phone was switched to www.voip.ms years ago... only a couple $$ a month now. But depends how much you are calling.
