This all good information guys. Thanks. Who says you couldn't put a d mod powerhead on with some kind of fancy tuner pipe that is still enclosed in the mid?

It does seem easiest to just get a 2 cyl OMC, but I have a dream of building a 4 cyl Merc 40 that looks like a mini Merc Drag...

T750 will continue to get faster. Thom and Jake were the first to get their boats into the high 50s. Now Jeremy is getting up to their level. I would not be surprised to see LC in the same range next year. The OMC can turn low 7's rpm wise and they have the best torque out of the turns. The Todd show at Waterford running a T750 in T850 clearly demonstrated the OMC twins performance when the course has short straights.

the 59cu in mercury 40 can be made to put out about 90hp.
go on brf and look at those running the sabine river with 40 mercs tuned up by hydromotive or hydra tec ?
they are blisteringly fast and every bit as fast as the top 56cu in omc engines.
most them are tiller engines on fishing punts doing 65mph plus.
some are using the NOS but not all of them. they realy do get a move on.

if you want to see what a 59 cu in merc 40 can go like then watch this, its quick by any standard.
and follow a few of the other boats on the page too, mostly the 40 mercs been tuned up.

has anyone tried a built 59ci merc on a tcat over there yet?
i run an 2013 aqua cat with a 55 seapro , got a hydro tech tuner , 3 gaskets between the reeds and manifold and carbon reeds,no porting stock block and interals. we run around 60/64 mph depending on water. our pb is 66.4mph with a lwp . we weigh 210kg combined crew .
a hot 59 merc with a light weight crew would fly.

man that last vid was scary !!! hope they were ok.

The Outlaws all have the 59ci 60hp stock and go 60-65mph
The Bandits mostly have the 59ci 40hp stock and go 50-55mph
Have not seen a mode 59ci in the eXperimental class, although Merten Marine had one before our time (<2008) racing ThunderCats, the sst60s are going 65-70mph

The 59 I got ended up in the garbage. I have tried to get another power head. But no luck yet.
An option is to run a 2 cylinder Mariner power head and make a T750 motor.

the mertens know how to cut a cleaver good to.
