and you all think your jack plates are "made in the usa "

now that is dangerous.

Come now...why would I want something made in the USA? And I think most of us have been in this game long enough to understand the risks....we're not new.

But I'll indulge you...how many jackplates have failed?

No worries Geigertec is on it, Bryan fired up the plasma cutter last night and with The Gun welding he thinks he should save Ricky a little weight off the ass end at the end of the day.
Win-win I'd say!

Gig said he's gonna build RBT's new mid out of the same material!

Nice! Is that 5/8" or 3/4"? Put me down for one as well. I just bored my carbs out to 1 3/8" so I would like to go with the 1" thick plate to be safe. Do you happen to know the hardness and the carbon content of the steel? I don't trust regular old 1045 steel. I've seen way too many of them bend. I want mine double welded with 3/4" grade 8 bolts. According to my calculations this should come in at just under 74lbs. Not a bad weight for all the extra strength I'll be getting.

note most of the broken jack plates are torn from the top, not the bottom.
this would not indicate a strike to the skeg of the outboard motor to cause the problem as
i would think that would most likely cause a tear starting at the bottom.

here is what I am talking about. with torn apart plates,

this one could of hit something , but the skeg dont look bad enough for this much damage to happen, and all bolts still intact.

So...two you can find? One is a bass boat with an sho which is odd because the clamp brackets on those usually fail first. The other is a V8 on an undersized plate. Any examples with a 3 cyl? Lol. But 2 out of 1000's isn't exactly a crisis. I'd bet there are more steering tillers or tiller bolts that break than jackplates that fail. Anyway...same story..mountain out of mole hill.

Wow i ve never heard of one breaking..maybe mine will, i figured my 3/8 thick jacklate is rated for a 200 v-6,since i have a 60 2 cylinder thats less than 1/3 the hp, so my new jackplate is 1/3 the thickness and weight! :) OH and nice carbs Doc!

I dont know where you get that I said a 3 cylinder would break anything ?
I said there has been lots of jack plates break,
the topic was not about a 3 cylinder engine, it was about all sorts of engines running them.

i hope none of you ever experience a broken plate

Obviously...the great thing about those carbs is they have adjustable jets like a chainsaw...screw it in for lean...may take a couple laps to get it lean enough lol
