I am easily the one that talks about "OLD SCHOOL" motors and history on this site the most.
But old school is not what the younger people are interested in. We need to face it. TWO STROKE is history, FOUR STROKE is NOW!
The top racing in the world is UIM F1 and they are making their own parts for their two stroke motors. Its individuals that support two stroke. The manufacturers build four stroke.
Racing is interesting so long as there is equal competition. There is no sense in mixing 2 stroke and 4 stroke in the same class. Four stroke against 4 stroke is going to be slower, but it is an equal race,
OPBRA just announced that Yamaha has joined them......GREAT NEWS! I bet the other manufacturers are watching and are interested as well. Seeing their new model four stroke race is going to make them more interested.

SO HOW DO YOU GET THE 4 STROKE CLASS STARTED?

You start with the DEALERS.
The class has to be RACY ......we have people with STV's and Allison's etc.
You want to choose a motor size that many outboard manufacturers produce.
You approach the dealer with the idea and see if they will support you.
Some dealers may want to enter their own boat....DOC would be a good possibility.
The motors could be sold later as demo models and the new models replace them every year.
So there is not a big expense to support the class from the dealer side.
The other OPBRA sponsors will see there is an advantage to supporting this class.
The class directly relates to what the general public drive.

Don, this was the driving force behind the new "STOCK" class.
4 strokes will be allowed to compete in this class (and any other that they qualify)
To date, the manufacturers are at arms length, but watching.
Yamaha has jumped on board this year in a different capacity, but they are involved.
BRP/Evinrude is getting closer by the day. They will most likely get on board with the Jet-ski portion first.
Mercury, was contacted in 2017. We may need to visit that again soon.

I, for one, would love to bolt a big Yamaha on the Q'shot to see what it would do.

Great thoughts as always. Keep them coming.

To take advantage of the experts who build those great MODIFIED small 4 cylinder Honda and other make engines.
a class with weights similar to 3 cylinder Drag only:
4 CYLINDER 4 STROKE DRAG
OR
This may interest a different group

I got a message that this would not work because the are no marine conversion kits for the VTEC Honda motors.
For this class you would run the Honda motor exactly the same as it is in the car. The motor would have its original radiator set-up.
You would only need to make a drive shaft to the IO unit. The IO unit provides the FNR and the thru hub exhaust. You don't have to worry about water pick up so the gear case can be very high for less drag in the water and you could run turbo[s]. You are taking a street racer and making a drag boat where you don't need to worry about tickets or having your toy removed because of a pollution test.
