Thanks Don That prop is an 18 pitch. Does running a chopper allow more pitch? Stock was 12 I believe.Mark, the stock 12 pitch is designed for the average production boat and multiple passengers.
Mercury designed the 18 chopper for light weight performance single passenger boats.
There is a difference between the original 18 and the chopper 2...the second version.
This link gives the info on the chopper 2 prop....Ron Hill's props are a bit different to the Mercury.
https://www.mertenmarine.com/Chopper-II ... r-43592A61With a stock prop you will rev over 6000 and run 40 mph ish.
The spline is different for the 30 yamaha compared to the 25 mercury and the spline is different for the 50 Yamaha.
The hubs can be switched and the rubber hubs fit.
I have never had a chopper 2 prop.....only the original.
On a "light" VooDoo with a 30 hp Yamaha they run 45 to 46 mph at approximate 5800 rpm.....very slow to get on plane.
Same VooDoo with a 50 hp Yamaha same prop ran 54 mph at 6400 rpm.
AS NOTED IN THE LINK:
You can run these props high on the transom and the prop works well with a hull that needs bow lift.....MOST DELTAS AND VOODOO'S WITH 50 HP AND SMALLER MOTORS NEED BOW LIFT. ONCE YOU HAVE A DELTA OR VOODOO RUNNING OVER 60 MPH THE "SPEED" GIVES THE BOW LIFT. RUNNING OVER 70 MPH THEY HAVE "TOO MUCH" BOW LIFT AND ARE DANGEROUS!!
