What do people do to increase the reed stop height? Mine measure .210 to .220in. Spec sheet for 49.7 FE says .280

Matt, check a few 56 reed cages. When we raced SST 60 in the states the inspectors found the reed stop height was between 280 and 300. That range was legal.

6. Standard SST 60 reed is steel .010 thick and reed stop height is H=.280 maximum.
Alternate reed for SST-60 may be used: OMC P/N 568428, bottom reed = .028.003; top reed .017.003, H = .300 maximum

HERE'S ANOTHER BANG FOR THE BUCK 49!

thanks Don, but I have no other reed cages.

does anyone have 56'r reed cages available?

edit: I do have cages from very early 3cyls - the 55/65hp electric shift motors.. I may use those reeds to make shims..

no leaks, no kaboom, compression still good.
now for the tuning...

I can't get the engine height low enough. I lose water pressure trimming up... Trim up to just about getting good and the tell tail is mostly air. Trim down, solid stream...

Thanks, Paul.
Yes, top two are blocked. I should be more organized - hijacked two threads for this, but there are pics here: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4299
It is still a bit of a Frankenstein motor. Needs paint and decnals...

I saw 63.4mph at 6380rpm with the 21p prop I use for T750 racing.
That's with the wind (and it was windy and choppy and cool) and engine too high, but I couldn't fully trim up or take a long pass due to no water pressure.
