I am not sure if they have even thought about it. They had good success with the TBoats and a larger similar TBoat class would be a good fit in their program.

You don’t read anything about the larger class, but there have been races.

I think a class for the motors being made today would be better. An inline 6 Merc is very old now. Cool, but not the future. Just my 2 cents.

I totally agree! there would be zero interest in racing the old inline mercury. That was the reason I titled the thread..T2000. The class would be 2 liters maximum or 120 cubic inches. That opens the door for the newer motors.

One complaint about T850 is the boats especially the critchfield are too small inside for the larger drivers that are over 200 lbs.
There are several 15 to 17 foot performance hulls that would fit into the class. There are lots of motors that fit.

The original T Class took the UIM versions and modified the specifications of the class to fit the boats and motors available in Ontario Canada. You would do the same with a T2000 class. You look at similar classes are successful in other parts of the world and you develop an Ontario Canada version. Same thought process as developing a small Stock Outboard tunnel class.

The Drag Boat Groups have multiple classes running the large horsepower V6 motors and they did try a triples mod class.
Those classes have become very expensive to be competitive in. Boats and motors for those class are out of reach for most .

T2000 becomes a good option. Depending on the specification rules, it should be far less costly and very competitive.

Things to consider in developing T2000:

All motors must be 20 inch
All motors must be fuel injection
All motors must be “production stock” and have original ECM Specifications
All motors must be 2015 model or newer
Base the minimum weights of a boat on the weight of the “production model “ specification.
The running surfaces of the bottom can be modified.
Low water pickups allowed

Depending on the manufacturer the new 4 stroke models at approximately 2 liters are between 115 and 140 hp. That is similar to the hp of the boats in the videos. You would expect the 4 strokes performance would be similar.

Spec boat, 15’Allison? I think Jack Barsh makes them.

Otherwise, 15-16 foot boats, new or ancient, are not common.

Spec boats, what was I thinking? The boat should be the 16 Tuff. What motors weigh 300 lb or less?

BINGO!!
Canadian Boat, built here in Ontario.
You need to search back on the Tuff site, but they did build a light weight Tuff 16 and were going to test it with an SST 60 OMC.
Their business model is towards the larger hulls so they may not be interested. But the moulds are here and Tuff maybe interested in renting the moulds out.

The class maybe able to get an outboard manufacturer to sponsor the class and provide discounts on the motor to racers.

Another option is to select a hull. You only need one boat. You update it both on the deck and in the hull design. You make a splash of that boat and it becomes the spec boat for the class.

Mercury’s motor is just over 2 liters, the Suzuki is exactly 2 liters and the Yamaha is just under 2 liters. Similar weights.
