The tractors seem to work pretty well at the two big events.....as long as there are guys to help organize them...

I have... we use them to move our race boats to the crane. It is not very fast and with the T boats you would be faster with a non powered dolly and 2 guys. The best thing would be a gas powered golf cart.

First thoughts:
1) Speed: no way it moves as fast as a car/tractor; has really slow gearing.
2) At steep ramps(DV): doesn't have weight over wheels, would spin out
3) At shallow ramps/water: can't go in water to float boat off trailer
4) Only applicable for shunting trailers in level yard.
5) We'd need 2-3, who's going to haul/store them?
5) Too slow to ride like Segway to Timmie's for coffee

the SLTs typically have a few race teams with 4 wheelers to help out at the ramp.

Go to the bottom of this page and click on the picture. The video is excellent.
Who says there is no interest in small tunnels?
Got to love those 49 OMCs!
Look at all the future stars of racing in this video.
Talk about light hulls!
They even had a right hand turn!
Clock start!

those days of factory sponsorship are gone!It would be cool to have three cor boats evenly prepared and the top three drivers from T have a shootout  at the end of the year!I think that would up the incentive for points aquisition!just thinkin!

Question and answer
I have been trying to decide what boat and motor combination I should race in T Class. I originally thought of a VooDoo, then I liked the Critchfield, now I like the Rapid Craft and the new inclosed 13 foot Allison. You guys have so many great boats and they are all affordable. Don are you sure you can get me a new 50 Tohatsu for under 5 thousand? Seems like a deal. But, all the talk about the OMCs gets me thinking about them. I may need 3 different boats. Which combination would you suggest?

Your not the first one to ask this question. You don't appear to have any brand loyality and you cannot go wrong with any of the combinations your thinking about. The choice is yours to make, they all would be competitive. Your success will be the direct result of your driving ability. If you do not have experience driving this type of boat I do suggest you drive one first. They all have different handling characteristics and one will suit your driving style more than anothers. Generally the boats with 12 1/2 or more diameter props are more demanding in and out of the turns. The smaller 11 diameter propped boats are much easlier to drive. And we can get a Tohatsu for that price. I don't think tax was included. There is a used one on this site for less money and there are lots of OMC, Yamaha and other motors as well. Prices are less than 500 for some used motors and a NEW boat is in the $3000.00 range. Used boats range from $300 to $2500.00. Come to the Toronto Boat Show booth and talk to some of the guys.

Question and answer
I know centre steering is the best for racing and it is possible to move the wheel to race and then move it back when using it as a cottage boat. I would like to leave it on the side. Is one side better left or right?

I actually liked it on the left side better. On many boats the battery box is on the right side as well, so it is easy to balance the boat side to side. I liked was the position of the foot pedal on your right foot, the angle of the pedal is better and it helps hold you in the seat. I also liked the Land and Sea foot pedal with the cable off the bottom for a neat install. If you race with the wheel on the left it helps you turn into the corner. It hurts you coming out of the corner. Some hydroplanes and even tunnels have tried offsetting the driver position to the left. They even alter the size and shape on the sponsons to help the boat corner. What ever side to do have the wheel close to the centre. GOOD QUESTION!

Question and answer
I am not a racer, but to do have a 70 hp Yamaha VooDoo. You mention that the 48, 55 and 60 hp Yamaha or Mariner 2 cylinder gearcase fits. I got one and the drive shaft is too long. I can't get the motor to run any where near the 7000 rpm you talk about. My motor starts missing at 6300 rpm. Whats up?

Maybe I should have DOC answer the Whats up! Anyway thanks for the e-mail. On the other site we have talked a lot about both problems.
[1] the gear case...There are 3 different drive shaft lengths with the 2 cylinder model. a 15. a 19 and a 21. The one that fits right on the long shaft 70 is the 19 inch one. You have the 21. They call it a 20, but it measures close to 21. You can have it cut and welded. The spline will fit. You will need a new prop because the gear ratio in the small foot will be either 1:71 or 1:84 compared to the 2:33 ratio in the larger foot.

[2] The 6300 rpm problem is the rev limiter. IF your motor is a prev 1992 model with the small CDI box. There is a grey wire out of the box. There is a plug join in the wire. Just unplug it. If your motor has the large CDI box and the pick up coils near the flywheel are mounted on blocks, then you have a problem. You can't fix the rev limiter to my knowledge without switching back to the older style CDI system.
