I'm sure there was some discussion and comparison involved with the pad decision!the original hull design was based on a rigged motor of about 400lbs.! I'm not familiar with Yami weight,but with the setback bracket and J.P. it has to have moved the c.g. substantially! I have a feeling it may end up the fastest single v6 engine challenger rig to date! I think it would need to get to 90 to match what has been achieved with a V8 and mid nineties to equall a twin with shiftable gearcases!A twin has hit 100 with speedmasters,but the powerheads used were probably not making more than 230ps h.p.! I've heard the tuff can achieve this speed with a single 300. so the pad has to play a large part in the speed gain!I'm hoping Mark had some input as to the pad changes!

I don't think it will be 90's fast but I do think it will be north of 85.. But hey one can only dream!

take it south when it's done, I can't wait till spring to get some results! you know I want to do some work on my hull and if this produces what I think it will,the twin would be a superb candidate for the widened pad! I'm carrying about 750lbs. back there!The original pad was designed for a rough water/speed compromise,not all out top end!

yep... it will be interesting ! i'm excited.. and at the same time scared.... lots of money going into the unknown... the good news is you'll at least know what not to do .... :shock:

I don't consider it unknown, Marks boats run great!you didn't comment on the point I raised about him having input on the pad width!I 'm still hoping you had some consultation with him! He's the only guy that's had experience with the re-design of the running surface of these hulls that I know about! I talked to him at length about the previous hull I had and what to do with it,then my current hull became and nothing was proceeded!yet! I love these hulls,was weened on them and think there still the best all round performance boat available,now that the Tuff is conceived!

The Tuff has a lot of differences that go along with that pad design too...Though I'm sure the pad itself would transfer over without negative effect, I wouldn't expect the gains he has seen. There's alot more going on in a Tuff than mearly a wider pad.....

I know, I know....negative Ricky....but...you're not in Florida AND you ain't runnin' no stock XR6...just sayin' :geek:

all we can do is try to get these original classic hulls close to today's performance [Tuff] standards! If my pockets were deep enough I'd own a Tuff!When my appraisal was done with a replacement value on it! 80K-100k not kidding, I'm assuming he was taking the price of a Tuff rigged with twins[not xr6]haha!!I had it done by a well known ins. adj./appraisal co. ! now we have daveee [onboard] who is an accredited appraiser![might save us a couple dollars]!

Rick/shivers, there is a patent on a hull design in 1996 that run a negative 3/4-1.25 degree angle from about 44" forward of and back to the transom. That will give you automatic bow lift while running fast on the pad. You could then benefit with less setback and less motor trimming to fly the boat and have more available straight engine thrust to help higher speeds.... just one thought ....

also a hydrostream Virage pad with a closer lifting strake between the first one on our boats. The strake starts only 2" away from the lateral margin of the pad on each side and is 1.25" wide. then drops up 5/8" to met the next bottom area leading out to our first strake. The pad extends 5/8"-3/4" down from the bottom where mine is only .25" off my bottom. Making our pads 7" wide, traced out on Linder hull and it fit perfectly ! That new first strake runs up to where the deck begins in front of the drive seat and blends into the original bottom. This set up would give much more lift to our boats without a doubt.

there are there are many examples of fast running hulls in the 20' range that are very close to my Bottom... so with a little modding..

there is literally 5 people measuring every 20'-22' hull we can find comparing the differences to the way the boats run from mid-range to top speed .... i'm not saying we are professionals but there is some serous boat history and data for Barrons Custom boats to work off of.
they know what the goal is and there confident they can deliver me a new and improved running surface...

yes. but its the idea of the strakes being closer to the pad for improved lift and stability.
